A list of films produced in Israel in the 2000s. Overview The 2000s (decade) has brought a prosperous era to Israeli cinema, both for drama and documentary. The Israeli cinema audience grew, critics praised more films, and several Israeli films gained respect and won awards in film festivals around the world. This success could be ascribed to the significant improvement in the quality of the films, a decrease in overtly political emphasis, and to an increased funding from both the state and television industry. The Israeli commercial TV channels ( Channel 2, Cable television and Satellite television) were contractually obliged to fund cinematic film productions in exchange for their future broadcasting rights. Furthermore, royalties which the television companies once paid to the government now go to the Israeli cinema industry. Keren Yedaya ( he, קרן ידעיה; born in 1972) is an Israeli filmmaker. She was born in the United States, but her family moved to Israel in 1975 when she was just three. She trained at the Camera Obscura School of Art in Tel Aviv. Biography Yedaya is known as a political activist for feminism and women's rights and takes part in protests against Israeli military presence in the West Bank. Her films are reflections of her political activism. She started her career making short films ''Elinor'' in 1994 about the tribulations of an Israeli female conscript to the Army, whereas ''Lulu'' in 1998 tackles prostitution in Israel. ''Ajami'' ( ar, عجمي, ʿAjamiyy; he, עג'מי) is a 2009 Israeli Arab drama film. Its plot is set in the Ajami neighborhood of Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Israel. Plot The film contains five story lines, each of which is presented in a non-chronological fashion. Some events are shown multiple times from varying perspectives. A young Israeli Arab boy, Nasri, who lives in the Ajami neighborhood of Jaffa, narrates the film.
