This is a list of ambassadors of Iran to the United States. On April 7, 1980, the Iran embassy closed in the United States due to severed diplomatic relations. Iran currently has no ambassador to the United States but simply a chief of the Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United States at the Pakistani Embassy. Ghaffar Djalal
Ghaffar Jalal ( fa, غفار جلال علاء, was an Iranian diplomat. Career From 1907 to 1920 he was secretary in the Persian Legation in London while his uncle Mehdi Ala al-Saltaneh was Persian minister to the Court of St James's there. From 1921 to 1922 he was minister in Stockholm. From 1924 to 1928 he was minister in Cairo. From 1928 to 1930 he was minister in Rome. From 1930 to June 12, 1933 he headed the English Section of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. On June 12, 1933, he was accredited by Franklin D. Roosevelt. On Nowruz 1935, the diplomatic corps in Tehran was informed that the official name of Persia from now on was Iran. Ali Amini
Ali Amini ( fa, علی امینی; 12 September 1905–12 December 1992) was an Iranian politician who was the Prime Minister of Iran from 1961 to 1962. He held several cabinet portfolios during the 1950s, and served as a member of parliament between 1947 and 1949. Amini was widely regarded as "a ''protégé'' of the United States" and a "pro-American liberal reformer". Early life and education Amini was born on 12 September 1905 in Tehran. He was a grandson of Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar through his mother, Fakhr-ol-dowleh. His father was a significant statesman during the Qajar period, Mohsen Amin-ol-dowleh. He completed his studies first in Darolfonoon and then in France where he graduated with a degree in law from Grenoble University, followed by his PhD in economics from Paris. ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib ( ar, عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; 600 – 661 common era, CE) was the last of four Rashidun, Rightly Guided Caliphs to rule Islam (r. 656 – 661) immediately after the death of Muhammad, and he was the first Shia Imam. The issue of his succession caused a major rift between Muslims and divided them into Shia Islam, Shia and Sunni Islam, Sunni groups. Ali was assassinated in the Grand Mosque of Kufa in 661 by the forces of Mu'awiya I, Mu'awiya, who went on to found the Umayyad Caliphate. The Imam Ali Shrine and the city of Najaf were built around Ali's tomb and it is visited yearly by millions of devotees. Abbas Aram
Abbas Aram (1906–1985) was an Iranian diplomat and served as foreign minister for two terms between 1959 and 1960 and between 1962 and 1966. In addition, he was the ambassador of Iran to various countries, including Iraq, the United Kingdom and China. Career Aram was the first secretary at the embassy of Iran in the United States in the 1940s. As of 1950 he was serving as the chargé d'affaires there. He was the Iranian ambassador to Japan and then, to Iraq during the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Aram served as foreign minister in the late 1950s and 1960s. More specifically, he was twice appointed foreign minister. His first term was brief, from 1959 to 1960. He was appointed to the post for a second term on 19 July 1962. Nasrollah Entezam
Nasrollah Entezam (also spelled Naṣr-Allāh Enteẓām; fa, نصرالله انتظام; 16 February 1900 – 19 December 1980) was a diplomat, politician, and minister, as well as Iranian Ambassador to the United States and France. He was the first Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations from 1947 to 1950 and President of the UN General Assembly during its fifth session in 1950. Biography Early life Nasrollah Entezam was born in Tehran, Iran on 16 February 1900 into a Qajari family. His father Al-Saltanah Entezam and older brother Abdullah Entezam were also diplomats and politicians and his grandfather was the Minister of Order under Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. His mother, Khorshid Laqa Ghaffari, was descended from the Ghaffari family of Kashan. Nasrollah and his brother both studied at the German Embassy School in Tehran. An ambassador is an official envoy, especially a high-ranking diplomat who represents a state and is usually accredited to another sovereign state or to an international organization as the resident representative of their own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment. The word is also used informally for people who are known, without national appointment, to represent certain professions, activities, and fields of endeavor, such as sales. Hossein Ala
Hosein Alā ( fa, حسین علاء; 13 December 1881 – 12 July 1964) was an Iranian politician who served as Prime Minister in 1951 and from 1955 to 1957. Background He was born in 1882 in Tehran and spent his early years in London. He was educated at Westminster School and studied law at the University of London after which he was admitted to the bar at Inner Temple. He became involved in politics through a position in the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Iran. Career In his early political life Ala served as the chef de cabinet of the Iranian foreign ministry from 1905 to 1916. Subsequently, he was a member of an Iranian diplomatic delegation sent to the Paris Peace Conference of 1919.
