As it is a country with many different tribes and ethnic groups, the music of Indonesia ( id, Musik Indonesia) itself is also very diverse, coming in hundreds of different forms and styles. Every region have its own culture and art, and as a result traditional music from area to area also uniquely differs from one another. For example, each traditional music are often accompanied by their very own dance and theatre. Contemporary music scene have also been heavily shaped by various foreign influences, such as America, Britain, Japan, Korea, and India. Dewa (band)
Dewa 19 (pronounced in Indonesian as ''Dewa Sembilan Belas'') is an Indonesian rock band from Surabaya, East Java. Along with God Bless and Slank, they are dubbed as one of the greatest rock bands in the history of Indonesian popular music. The band was formed in 1986. There have been a number of changes to the lineup and finally they were disbanded in 2011. Their last members lineup was: Ahmad Dhani (keyboard), Andra (guitar), Agung Yudha (drums), Yuke (bass guitar), and Once (vocals). The band currently consists of only four members remaining; Ahmad Dhani, Andra, Yuke & Agung. This group has achieved success throughout the 1990s with Ari Lasso's vocals and the 2000s with Once's vocals. Burgerkill
Burgerkill is an Indonesian heavy metal band, originally from Bandung, capital city of West Java. The band is named after the fast food restaurant Burger King as a prank. The band was founded in May 1995 by Aris Tanto a.k.a. Eben, sometimes called 'Ebenz', a young man from Jakarta, who came to Bandung to continue his study. Broery Marantika
Simon Dominggus "Broery" Pesulima (June 25, 1948 – April 7, 2000) was an Indonesian singer and actor. Early life During his career he also used the name Broery Marantika taken from his mother's family name. He was raised by the family of his mother's uncle, Simon Marantika. His father named Gijsberth Pesulima while her mother called Wilmintje Marantika. Broery had three brothers, namely Henky, Freejohn and Helmi. Since young age Broery is a member of the church choir in Ambon. In 1964 he won the singing contest held by Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) in Ambon. A year after he moved to Cinere, Jakarta and started his career as a professional singer with Remy Leimena. Helmi Pesulima was a known singer. Broery made the first album recorded in 1968–1969. Blink or Blink Indonesia is a musical group from Jakarta, Indonesia. Blink formed in Jakarta on 23 July 2011. They later appeared in the musical television series called '' Putih Abu-Abu'' in 2012. They started their career by carrying Pop and Jazz stream and eventually mixed with electropop. Ahmad Syech Albar (27 September 1927 – 17 December 1974), better known by his stage name Bing Slamet, was an Indonesian singer, songwriter, comedian, and actor. During his career, he acted in 17 films and released "dozens" of albums. Shortly before his death, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Governor of Jakarta. Three of his songs were chosen by ''Rolling Stone Indonesia'' as some of the best Indonesian songs of all time. Benyamin Sueb (often written Benyamin S. or called Bang Ben; 5 March 19395 September 1995) was an Indonesian comedian, actor and singer. He released 46 studio albums and starred in more than 50 films. He received two Citra Awards for ''Intan Berduri'' in 1973 and ''Si Doel Anak Modern'' in 1975. Early life Benyamin was born in Kemayoran, Batavia, on 5 March 1939. His parents were Suaeb and Aisyah. His father's real name was Sukirman, but changed to Suaeb since he lived in Batavia. I Wayan Balawan (born September 9, 1972 in Bali), better known by the single name Balawan, is an Indonesian guitarist and songwriter. He is best known as a Batuan Ethnic Fusion guitarist and his ability to play double neck guitar. Balawan has developed the 8 Fingers Touch Style technique, which also known as the Touch-Tapping Style. He is often regarded as one of the fastest guitarists in Indonesia. Nazril Irham (born September 16, 1981), known professionally as Ariel or Ariel "Noah", is an Indonesian musician, singer and songwriter of Minangkabau ancestry.
