Honorary Fellow
Honorary titles (professor, reader, lecturer) in academia may be conferred on persons in recognition of contributions by a non-employee or by an employee beyond regular duties. This practice primarily exists in the UK and Germany, as well as in many of the universities and colleges of the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, New Zealand, Japan, Denmark, and Canada. Brian Donnelly (British Diplomat)
Sir Joseph Brian Donnelly (born 4 April 1945) is a retired British diplomat. Early life and education Brought up in Workington, he was educated at Workington Grammar School, The Queen's College Oxford (1963–66) (Wyndham scholar, MA, ed Cherwell), University of Wisconsin-Madison (MA). He began an MPhil at the London School of Economics, but left in 1970 and began working at GCHQ. Diplomatic career In 1973 he began working at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. From 1975 to 1979 he served in the UK Mission to the UN as First Secretary for the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and then in Singapore. From 1984 to 1987 he was Deputy to the Chief Scientific Adviser in the Cabinet Office. Subsequently he became Counsellor and Consul General in the Athens Embassy. Ioan James
Ioan Mackenzie James FRS (born 23 May 1928) is a British mathematician working in the field of topology, particularly in homotopy theory. Biography James was born in Croydon, Surrey, England, and was educated at St Paul's School, London and Queen's College, Oxford. In 1953 he earned a D. Phil. from the University of Oxford for his thesis entitled ''Some problems in algebraic topology'', written under the direction of J. H. C. Whitehead. In 1957 he was appointed reader in pure mathematics, a post which he held until 1969. From 1959 until 1969 he was a senior research fellow at St John's College. He held the Savilian Chair of Geometry at the University of Oxford from 1970 to 1995. He is now a professor emeritus. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1968. Leonard Hoffmann, Baron Hoffmann
Leonard Hubert "Lennie" Hoffmann, Baron Hoffmann (born 8 May 1934) is a retired senior South African–British judge. He served as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary from 1995 to 2009. Well known for his lively decisions and willingness to break with convention, he has had an especially large impact on the interpretation of contracts, shareholder actions in UK company law, in restricting tort liability for public authorities, human rights and intellectual property law, in particular patents. Currently, he serves as a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong. Allen Hill (scientist)
Hugh Allen Oliver Hill FRSC FRS (23 May 1937 – 30 July 2021), usually known as Allen Hill, was Professor, and later Emeritus Professor, of Bioinorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford and Honorary Fellow of The Queen's College, Oxford, and Wadham College, Oxford. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1990 and was awarded the 2010 Royal Medal of the Royal Society "for his pioneering work on protein electrochemistry, which revolutionised the diagnostic testing of glucose and many other bioelectrochemical assays.". After studying at Queen's University Belfast Hill moved to Oxford in 1962, becoming a fellow of The Queen's College in 1965. Ilkka Hanski
Ilkka Aulis Hanski (14 February 1953 – 10 May 2016) was a Finnish ecologist at the University of Helsinki, Finland. The Metapopulation Research Center led by Hanski, until his death, has been nominated as a Center of Excellence by the Academy of Finland. The group studies species living in fragmented landscapes and attempts to advance metapopulation ecology research. Metapopulation ecology itself studies populations of plants and animals which are separated in space by occupying patches. Peter Michael Stephan Hacker (born 15 July 1939) is a British philosopher. His principal expertise is in the philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, and philosophical anthropology. He is known for his detailed exegesis and interpretation of the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein, his critique of cognitive neuroscience, and for his comprehensive studies of human nature. John Griffith Williams
Sir John Griffith Williams (born 20 December 1944) is a retired Welsh judge of the High Court of England and Wales. He retired from the High Court (Queen's Bench Division) with effect from 21 December 2014. Military Griffith Williams was a lieutenant in the Royal Welch Fusiliers as a member of Territorial Army (United Kingdom), joining in 1964 and becoming part of the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve when it was created in 1967. Annette Gordon-Reed (born November 19, 1958) is an American historian and law professor. She is currently the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and a professor of history in the university's Faculty of Arts & Sciences. She is formerly the Charles Warren Professor of American Legal History at Harvard University and the Carol K. Pforzheimer Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. John Gillen (judge)
Sir John Gillen, PC (born 18 November 1947), previously known as The Rt Hon Lord Justice Gillen, and before that as Mr Justice Gillen, is a Privy Councillor and was one of the Lords Justices of Appeal of Northern Ireland, from September 2014-November 2017. Education Gillen attended Cregagh Primary School, then the Methodist College, Belfast, and Queen's College, Oxford. Career He was called to the bar in 1970 and became Queen's Counsel in 1983.
