State Register Of Heritage Places
The State Register of Heritage Places is the heritage register of historic sites in Western Australia deemed significant at the state level by the Heritage Council of Western Australia. History In the 1970s, following its establishment of the National Trust of Western Australia, the National Trust created a set of classified properties, and following legislation requiring inventories, Local Government authorities in Western Australia produced a subsequent set of Municipal Inventories, which then resulted in items then being included in the state register. As a result most register records include dates and details from the three different processes. In some cases authorities other than councils had governance over localities such as ''Redevelopment'' authorities, and they also provided Heritage Inventories in that stage of the process. Shire Of York
The Shire of York is a local government area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, covering an area of just beyond the eastern fringe of Perth's metropolitan area. The Shire's seat of government is the town of York. History The Shire of York was established as the York Road District on 24 January 1871. The townsite of York separated as the Municipality of York (later the Town of York) ten weeks later on 7 March 1871. It became a shire on 1 July 1961 following the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all road districts into shires. The Town of York merged back into the shire on 15 March 1965. Wards The council was previously split into three wards - Town (4 councillors), West (2 councillors) and East (3 councillors) - but these were abolished and an election for 6 councillors for the entire Shire was held on 6 May 2006. Great Southern Highway
Great Southern Highway is a highway in the southern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, starting from Great Eastern Highway at The Lakes, from Perth, and ending at Albany Highway near Cranbrook. It is the primary thoroughfare for this part of Western Australia and runs parallel with the Perth-Albany railway for its entire length. It is signed as State Route 120 from York to Cranbrook, and was first named in 1949, although it was built well before that time. Description The highway initially travels east to the historic town of York, before following the Avon Valley and the railway roughly southwards until Narrogin. The highway then runs parallel with Albany Highway at a distance of about through Wagin and Katanning before curving to approach Albany Highway where it ends past Cranbrook.
