List Of Governors Of Monagas
This is a list of governors of the Venezuelan States of Venezuela, state of Monagas. Until 1989, they were appointed by the president of Venezuela. Starting from that year they are elected in universal, direct and secret elections. In some years the head of Monagas state was known as ''president'' or ''civil and military chief'', in others ''governor''. Monagas was created in its present form in 1909. It existed previously as the Province of Maturín (Maturín being its capital) from 1856, becoming the State of Maturín in 1864, before being merged with another state in 1879. MIGATO
MIGATO (abbreviation of ''Movimiento Independiente Ganamos Todos'', lit. 'Everybody Wins Independent Movement') is a political party in Venezuela. Migato was founded in 1997 by José Gregorio Briceño, the mayor of Cedeño Municipality of Monagas State. "El gato" (the cat) is his nickname and "mi gato" means "my cat". At the 2000 Venezuelan parliamentary election, the party won 1 out of 165 seats in the National Assembly of Venezuela. Briceño was elected as the governor of Monagas in 2004. The 2005 election gave it 1 National Assembly seat again. Though their influence was significant in Monagas, both victories were mainly due to the alliance with the Fifth Republic Movement, which was the party of the president Hugo Chávez. It merged into PSUV on 2007-10-20. In March 2012, Briceño re-founded MIGATO when he was suspended by the PSUV over an oil spill in Monagas, which poisoned the water of the Guarapiche River that the PSUV leaders were claiming was safe to drink. José Gregorio Briceño
José Gregorio Briceño Torrealba (born July 25, 1965, in Caicara) is a Venezuelan politician. Life Briceño began his political life in 1979 as a member of Acción Democrática (AD). After being expelled from AD in 1991 Briceño founded a political party called Movimiento Independiente Cedeño (MIC). He became mayor of Cedeño Municipality in the regional elections of 1992 and was re-elected in 1995. In 1997 he founded a new political party named MIGATO. This became part of PSUV in 2007. Briceño ran unsuccessfully for the governor of Monagas' office in 1998; however he won a seat in the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies as Deputy. In 1999 Briceño was a member of the Constituent Assembly. Fifth Republic Movement
The Fifth Republic Movement (Spanish: ''Movimiento V uintaRepública'', MVR) was a socialist political party in Venezuela. It was founded in July 1997, following a national congress of the Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement-200, to support the candidacy of Hugo Chávez, the former President of Venezuela, in the 1998 presidential election. The "Fifth Republic" refers to the fact that in 1997 the Republic of Venezuela was the fourth in Venezuelan history, and the Movement aimed to re-found the Republic through a constituent assembly. Following Chávez' 1998 election victory, this took place in 1999, leading to the 1999 Constitution of Venezuela. Democratic Action ( es, Acción Democrática, AD) is a Venezuelan social democratic and centre-left political party established in 1941. The party played an important role in the early years of Venezuelan democracy, leading the government during Venezuela's first democratic period (1945–1948). A decade of dictatorship under Marcos Pérez Jiménez followed, which saw AD excluded from power.
