Goldsmiths, University Of London
Goldsmiths, University of London, officially the Goldsmiths' College, is a constituent research university of the University of London in England. It was originally founded in 1891 as The Goldsmiths' Technical and Recreative Institute by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in New Cross, London. It was renamed Goldsmiths' College after being acquired by the University of London in 1904 and specialises in the arts, design, humanities and social sciences. The main building on campus, known as the Richard Hoggart Building, was originally opened in 1792 and is the site of the former Royal Naval School. According to Quacquarelli Symonds (2021), Goldsmiths ranks 12th in Communication and Media Studies, 15th in Art & Design and is ranked in the top 50 in the areas of Anthropology, Sociology and the Performing Arts. Adam Mars-Jones
Adam Mars-Jones (born 26 October 1954) is a British novelist and literary and film critic. Early life and education Mars-Jones was born in London, to Sir William Mars-Jones (1915–1999), a Welsh High Court judge and a President of the London Welsh Trust, and Sheila Mary Felicity (1923–1999), an attorney, daughter of Charles Cobon, a marine engineer. Mars-Jones studied at Westminster School, and read Classics at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Career Mars-Jones is a regular contributor to ''The Guardian'', ''The Observer'', ''The Times Literary Supplement'', and the ''London Review of Books''. He also participated in BBC Television's ''Newsnight Review''. His first collection of stories, ''Lantern Lecture'' (1981), won a Somerset Maugham Award. Rachel Aldred
Rachel Aldred (born 1976) is British academic specialising in active mobility. She is a Professor in Transport at the University of Westminster and has published over 25 peer reviewed papers. She was awarded the Economic and Social Research Council's award for Outstanding Impact in Public Policy (2016) for her work on The Near Miss Project, the first UK study calculating a per-mile collision risk for cycling, and is one of the co-investigators of the Propensity to Cycle Tool, an online system for transport planners using census data to model the potential benefits of cycling infrastructure schemes in England, funded by the Department for Transport. Damon Albarn
Damon Albarn (; born 23 March 1968) is an English-Icelandic musician, singer-songwriter and composer, best known as the frontman and primary lyricist of the rock band Blur and as the co-creator and primary musical contributor of the virtual band Gorillaz. Raised in Leytonstone, East London, and around Colchester, Essex, Albarn attended The Stanway School, where he met guitarist Graham Coxon and formed Blur. They released their debut album ''Leisure'' in 1991. After spending long periods touring the US, Albarn's songwriting became increasingly influenced by British bands from the 1960s. George Musgrave (academic)
George Musgrave Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, FRSA is an academic studying the psychological experiences and working conditions of creative careers, with a current focus on mental health and wellbeing in the music industry. He is based at Goldsmiths, University of London and the University of Westminster. Musgrave is also a rapper and performs under the stage-name of Context. John Wood (design Theorist)
John Wood, DipAD, ADF(Manc), FRSA (b. 25 August 1945) is Emeritus Professor of Design at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He taught many Young British Artists when he was Deputy Head of the Fine Art Department at Goldsmiths between 1978 and 1988. He has received AHRC and EPSRC funding for research into metadesign. Biography Born in Bath, Wood attended Harrow County School for Boys, and then studied Fine Art at Manchester School of Art. Irit Rogoff
Irit Rogoff is a writer, theorist, teacher and curator. Her research interests include visual culture; contemporary art and critical theory; postcolonialism, geoculture, and geographies, cultures of education and gender. Rogoff obtained her PhD degree from the Courtald Institute of Art in 1987. She was born in Jerusalem, Palestine and immigrated to London for her studies in the 1970’s. Teaching Between 1989 and 1997 Rogoff taught at UC Davis, where she merged the graduate programs in Art and Critical Theory under the department of Visual Culture. Michael Rosen
Michael Wayne Rosen (born 7 May 1946) is a British children's author, poet, presenter, political columnist, broadcaster and activist who has written 140 books. He served as Children's Laureate from 2007 to 2009. Early life Michael Wayne Rosen was born into a Jewish family in Harrow, Middlesex, on 7 May 1946. Saul Newman
Saul Newman (born 22 March 1972) is a British political theorist who writes on post-anarchism. He is professor of political theory at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Newman took up the term "post-anarchism" as a general term for political philosophies filtering 19th century anarchism through a post-structuralist lens, and later popularized it through his 2001 book '' From Bakunin to Lacan''. Thus he rejects a number of concepts traditionally associated with anarchism, including essentialism, a "positive" human nature, and the concept of revolution.
