Silbernes Lorbeerblatt
Silbernes Lorbeerblatt (Silver Laurel Leaf), the highest sports award in Germany, was endowed on 23 June 1950 by the German President Theodor Heuss. It is awarded to athletes and teams of exemplary character that have won medals at Olympic and Paralympic Games, won important international titles like the football World Cup, or placed several times at international championships. To be honored with Silbernes Lorbeerblatt, an athlete or a team has to be nominated by the president of the German Olympic Sports Confederation to the German President. The request will be reviewed by the agency of the German President and the Federal Ministry of the Interior as this agency is responsible for sport in Germany. The Federal Ministry of the Interior signs the approved application, following article 58 of the 'Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany'. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (german: Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund or DOSB) was founded on 20 May 2006 by a merger of the ''Deutscher Sportbund'' (DSB), and the ''Nationales Olympisches Komitee für Deutschland'' (NOK) which dates back to 1895, the year it was founded and recognized as NOC by the IOC. The German Sports Badge (German: ''Deutsches Sportabzeichen'' (DSA)) is a decoration of the German Olympic Sports Federation DOSB. The German Sports Badge test is carried out primarily in Germany, and in other countries abroad. History The German Sports Badge, also known as the "German National Sports Badge" was first created in the year 1913 and is one of the oldest awards of Germany still in active circulation. At first the German Sports Badge was only issued to men for the completion of various physical tests. In 1921 it was renamed to ''Deutsches Turn- und Sportabzeichen'' and women were eligible as well. In Nazi Germany the design of the badge remained basically the same but a swastika was added at its base. The German snorkeling badge is a badge awarded for proficiency in snorkeling. It functions as a preparation for scuba diving certification courses. The badge is awarded either by the DLRG or the Wasserwacht of the German Red Cross. The German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (german: Das Abzeichen für Leistungen im Truppendienst) is a decoration of the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. SA Sports Badge
The SA Sports Badge was a decoration of Nazi Germany that was issued between the years 1933 and 1945. It was a political version of the much more generic German Sports Badge, which was also issued in great numbers by the Nazis. At its center was a 57mm high Roman broad sword, superimposed over a Nazi swastika encircled by an wreath of oak leaves. It was a pin-back badge, but there was a cloth version, as well. The SA Sports Badge was instituted on 28 November 1933 by then SA chief Ernst Röhm. It was originally only issued in bronze through the year 1935.
