''Les Amours de la reine Élisabeth'' (''The Loves of Queen Elizabeth''), ''Les Amours d'Élisabeth, Reine d'Angleterre'' (''The Loves of Elizabeth, Queen of England'') or ''La reine Élisabeth'' (''Queen Elizabeth'') is a 1912 feature 4-reel French silent film based on the love affair between Elizabeth I of England and the Earl of Essex. It was condensed from a play of the same name and directed by Louis Mercanton and Henri Desfontaines. It was shot in Paris and starred Sarah Bernhardt as Elizabeth and Lou Tellegen as Essex. Bernhardt by then was 68 and said of the film "This is my last chance at immortality". She and Tellegen were already romantically involved, and this was their second film together. Its production company, L’Histrionic Film, was forced into liquidation by Pathé Frères during the film's production, but it was completed with funds from Adolph Zukor. Paul Capellani
Paul Capellani (September 9, 1877 – November 7, 1960) was a noted French silent film actor. His brother was the director Albert Capellani and his uncle the film director Roger Capellani who died May 1940 at the Battle of Dunkirk. He starred in some 100 films between 1908 and 1930. In 1920 he appeared in Guy du Fresnay's ''De la coupe aux lèvres''. Jeanne Delvair
Jeanne Delvair (December 19, 1877 – January 13, 1949) was a French stage and film actress of the early 20th century. Life Delvair was born Jeanne Louise Deluermoz in Paris, France. She started acting in stage productions at an early age, and transitioned into film acting with her role portraying " Marie Stuart" in the 1908 film ''Marie Stuart''. She followed that with the 1909 film '' Macbeth''. From 1910 to 1923 she appeared in another fifteen films, as well as acting in stage productions. Her most recognizable film role during that period was portraying " Mary Tudor" in the 1917 film ''Marie Tudor''. After 1923 she left film acting, but continued to act in theater. Albert Capellani
Albert Capellani (23 August 1874 – 26 September 1931) was a French film director and screenwriter of the silent film, silent era. He directed films between 1905 and 1922. One of his brothers was the actor-sculptor Paul Capellani, and another, film director Roger Capellani. Biography Albert Capellani born in Paris in 1874. His father was a banker, and Capellani worked as a bank employee in his early years. Capellani, along with his brother Paul, studied acting under Charles le Bargy at the Conservatoire de Paris. Starting his career as an actor, he worked with the director André Antoine at the Théâtre Libre and the Odéon. He then began directing plays for the Odéon, working alongside the lauded actor and director Firmin Gémier. In 1903, he became the head of the Alhambra (Paris), Alhambra music hall in Paris.
