This is a list of foreign players in the Canadian Premier League (CPL), which commenced play in 2019. The following players: #Have played at least one CPL regular season game. Players who were signed by CPL clubs, but only played in playoff games, Canadian Championship games, or did not play in any competitive games at all, are not included. #Are considered foreign, i.e., outside Canada determined by the following: ::''A player is considered foreign if his allegiance is not to play for the Canada men's national soccer team, national team of Canada.'' More specifically, *If a player has been Cap (sport), capped at international level, the national team is used; if he has been capped by more than one country, the highest level (or the most recent) team is used. Canadian Premier League
The Canadian Premier League (CPL or CanPL; french: Première ligue canadienne, links=no) is a professional men's Association football, soccer league in Canada. At the top of the Canadian soccer league system, it is the country's primary national soccer league competition. The league consists of eight teams, from five of provinces and territories of Canada, Canada's ten provinces. Each team plays 28 games in the regular season which is followed by playoffs culminating in the Canadian Premier League Finals, CPL Finals. The CPL champion and regular season winner earn berths in the CONCACAF Champions League, competing against teams from across North America, Central America and Caribbean for a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup. All CPL teams also play in the Canadian Championship, alongside Canadian clubs from other leagues. Kévin David Nogueira Carvalho Santos (born 20 November 1999) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Atlético Ottawa in the Canadian Premier League. Nana Opoku Ampomah (born 2 January 1996) is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Canadian Premier League club Forge FC. Early life Ampomah played youth football with Prisco Minis, Santos Academy (the Ghanaian training center of Brazilian club Santos FC), and FC Bravo Bravo in his native Ghana. Elimane Oumar Cissé (born 12 March 1995) is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Canadian Premier League club Forge FC and the Senegal national football team. Club career Cissé began playing at the senior level with Diambars in the 2014-15 season. In 2016, he sought out a move to a European club, however, the move failed to materialize. Alexander Börje Achinioti-Jönsson (born 17 April 1996) is a Swedish footballer who plays for Canadian club Forge FC as a midfielder. Club career Helsingborgs IF On 1 May 2014, Achinioti-Jönsson made his professional debut for Helsingborgs IF as an injury-time substitute in a Swedish Cup match against Malmö FF. Four days later on 5 May, he made his league debut as a 27th-minute substitute against AIK. In 2015, during a U21 match against IFK Göteborg, Achinioti-Jönsson was hospitalized due to a high heart rate. Shortly after being released from hospital, he suffered a concussion which kept him sidelined for two months. After returning to training, he had another heart episode during a workout which sent him to the hospital once again. On this occasion, he was not cleared to return to training until the end of the season, when doctors finally determined that his heartrate issues were benign. Béni Badibanga Diata (born 19 February 1996) is a footballer who plays for Forge FC in the Canadian Premier League. Born in DR Congo, he represented Belgium at youth international level. He spent most of his career in Belgium, with over 100 appearances in the Belgian top flight and has also played professionally in Morocco and Canada. Early life Badibanga was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As his father was a businessman with a multinational Congolese company in the mining industry, he moved to London, England for a period, before moving to northern France near Lille. Abdulmalik Timmy Owolabi-Belewu (born 3 July 2002) is an English professional Association football, footballer who plays as a centre-back for Forge FC in the Canadian Premier League. Early life Born in London, England, Owolabi-Belewu began playing youth football with the Junior Red Spartans. When he was 13, he moved to London, Ontario, Canada with his family. He began playing with Whitecaps London SC, later being invited to try out for the official Vancouver Whitecaps FC Academy, however, due to an injury, he was unable to make the team.
