This list of films of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) includes the non-commercial motion pictures commissioned by or officially produced by the church. Such films were originally used in the homes or worship services of church members, or in visitors' centers on Temple Square or near one of the church's temples. Most church films were produced by LDS Motion Picture Studios. Since the opening of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah in 1993, some feature-length films were premiered and exclusively shown in its Legacy Theatre, prior to release for broader use. In the 1970s, the church also commissioned Brigham Young University (BYU) to produce short films for use in the Church Educational System. These films, shown mostly in the seminaries and institutes of religion, teach religious principles, church history, and general kindness. ''Johnny Lingo'' is a 1969 short film directed by Wetzel O. Whitaker. The film and later remake are based on a short story by Patricia McGerr, originally published in a 1965 issue of ''Woman's Day''. The Mountain Of The Lord
''The Mountain of the Lord'' is a 72-minute film produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It depicts the story of the building of the Salt Lake Temple in a fictional encounter between a reporter and Wilford Woodruff and was produced for the centennial of its dedication. The film shows the struggles of early Mormons to build the temple—which took 40 years to complete—in the Salt Lake Valley, where church members arrived in 1847. Stephen Brown Allen (born January 12, 1950) is a maker of Latter-day Saint religious and proselytizing films. Allen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arthur Tranter and Virginia Brown Allen. His mother died from complications related to childbirth and his father subsequently married June Fowler Allen, the only mother he would know. His father was involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) building program. On assignments, his family moved to various parts of the world. Allen spent four years of his childhood in Australia and New Zealand. At the age of twelve his family moved to Montevideo, Uruguay, where he later graduated from high school. Allen served as a missionary in the church's Guatemala–El Salvador Mission from 1969 to 1971. ''How Rare a Possession'' is a 64-minute film produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It depicts the conversion stories of Parley P. Pratt, a church leader in the 19th century, and Vincenzo di Francesca, an Italian pastor in the 20th century, who both join the church after studying the Book of Mormon. The Last Leaf
The Last Leaf is a short story by O. Henry published in his 1907 collection ''The Trimmed Lamp and Other Stories''. The story first appeared on October 15, 1905, in the ''New York World''. The story is set in Greenwich Village during a pneumonia epidemic. It tells the story of an old artist who saves the life of a young neighbouring artist, dying of pneumonia, by giving her the will to live. Through her window she can see an old ivy creeper (growing on a nearby wall), gradually shedding its leaves as autumn turns into winter, and she has taken the thought into her head that she will die when the last leaf falls. Joseph Smith–History (abbreviated JS–H) is a book in the Pearl of Great Price containing excerpts from an autobiographical record of some of the early events in the life of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. Like many of Smith's publications, it was dictated to scribes. The recording of Joseph Smith–History began in 1839 in Nauvoo, Illinois. Scribes included James Mulholland, Robert B. Thompson, W. W. First Vision
The First Vision (also called the grove experience by members of the Community of Christ) refers to a theophany which Latter Day Saints believe Joseph Smith experienced in the early 1820s, in a wooded area in Manchester, New York, called the Sacred Grove. Smith described it as a Vision (spirituality), vision in which he received instruction from God the Father and Jesus Christ. According to the account Smith told in 1838, he went to the woods to pray about which church to join but fell into the grip of an evil power that nearly overcame him. At the last moment, he was rescued by two shining "Personages" (implied to be God the Father and Jesus) who hovered above him. One of the beings told Smith not to join any of the existing churches because they all taught incorrect doctrines.
