Fiji National Rugby Union Team
The Fiji national rugby union team represents Fiji in men's international rugby union competes every four years at the Rugby World Cup, and their best performances were the 1987 and 2007 tournaments when they defeated Argentina and Wales respectively to reach the quarterfinals. Fiji also regularly plays test matches during the June and November test windows. Fiji also plays in the Pacific Tri-Nations, and has won the most Pacific Tri-Nations Championships of the three participating teams. Fiji is one of the few countries where rugby union is the main sport. There are approximately 80,000 registered players from a total population of around 950,000. One obstacle for Fiji is simply getting their rugby players to play for the national team, as many have contracts in Europe or with Super Rugby teams where the money is far more rewarding. Navitalai Senilagakali
Navitalai Senilagakali (1952–2006) was a Fijian rugby union footballer. He played as a Fly Half and represented Lautoka. He was renowned for kicking a penalty resulting in the ball flying above the goal post gaining them 3 points. That same ball flew above the spectators, above the stadium in Argentina and also above the soldiers on guard on top of the Ferrocarril Oeste, Buenos Aires Stadium. Senilagakali had 32 caps for Fiji, scoring 20 tries, 80 points in aggregate. His first cap came on the 24 May 1980, in a 9-22 loss to Australia, and his final match was on 9 November 1985, in a 3-40 loss to Wales. Serupepeli Tuvula (born c. 1963 in Nadi) is a Fijian former rugby union footballer, he played as wing. Tomasi Camaneisenirosi is a Fijian former rugby union footballer. He played for Nabua Rugby Club in Fiji and won 14 caps playing for making his test debut 10 August 1985 against at Ballymore, Brisbane scoring a try. He played four tests in the 1987 Rugby World Cup. Peceli Gale (born Nawaka, 27 June 1957) is a Fijian former rugby union footballer. He played as number eight. Career His first cap for Fiji was during the match against Tonga, at Suva, on 24 July 1984. Ilaitia Savai
Ilaitia Savai (Nakalawaca, 12 July 1960 - Nadi 22 January 2015) was a Fijian rugby union player. He played as a lock. Career Savai made his debut for Fiji at the Suva National Stadium when he came in on the 40th minute as a substitute in the test against Australia. He played for Fiji from 1984 to 1995 earning 38 caps from 91 appearances. He was in the 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cup rosters, playing 7 matches, scoring 4 points and 1 try. Savai also captained Fiji in the 1990 test against Japan, Tonga, Samoa and Hong Kong and later led the team to the tour of New Zealand in the same year. Under his captaincy, Fiji won three out of four tests. His last international cap was during a match against Canada, at Nadi, on April 8, 1995. Death Savai died on February 2, 2015. He was laid to rest at his village of Nakalawaca and is survived by his wife and three children. Sairusi Naituku (26 February 1961, in Lomaiviti – 7 June 2016, in Lautoka) was a Fijian rugby union player. He played as a prop He was the captain of Fiji secondary school and Fiji Colts and was one of the first Fijians to secure a rugby contract in South Africa, playing for the South Pacific Barbarians, a team made up of players from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga that went to play a rebel tour in the apartheid-era South Africa.
