The Fellow of the British Academy, Fellowship of the British Academy consists of world-leading scholars and researchers in the humanities and social sciences. A varying number of fellows are elected each year in July at the academy's annual general meeting. The first woman was elected to the fellowship in 1932. Fellowship of the British Academy (FBA) is an award granted by the British Academy to leading academics for their distinction in the humanities and social sciences. Katherine Hawley
Katherine Jane Hawley (1971-2021) was a British philosopher specialising in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and philosophy of physics. Hawley was a professor of philosophy at the University of St Andrews. She was the author of ''How Things Persist'' (OUP 2002), ''Trust: a Very Short Introduction'' (OUP 2012), and ''How To Be Trustworthy'' (OUP 2020). Hawley was elected a Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2016, elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2020, and she was the recipient of a Philip Leverhulme Prize (2003) and a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship (2014–16). Life and career Hawley was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Essi Viding
Essi Maria Viding FBA FMedSci is Professor of Developmental Psychopathology at University College London in the Faculty of Brain Sciences, where she co-directs the Developmental Risk and Resilience Unit, and an associate of King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. Viding's research focuses on development of disruptive behaviour disorders, as well as children and young people's mental health problems more broadly. She uses cognitive experimental measures, brain imaging and genetically informative study designs in her work. Education Viding was educated at King's College London where she was awarded a PhD in 2004 for research supervised by Francesca Happé. She did her postdoctoral research under the supervision of Robert Plomin. Caroline Van Eck
Caroline Alexandra van Eck (born 22 July 1959) is a Dutch art historian and academic, specialising in the art and architecture of the early modern period. Since 2016, she has been Professor of Art History at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge. She was Professor of Art and Architecture before 1800 at Leiden University from 2006 to 2016, and previously taught at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Groningen. She was the 2017 Slade Professor of Fine Art at the University of Oxford. Rosalind Thomas
Rosalind Thomas FBA is a Fellow and Tutor in Classics at Balliol College, Oxford University and professor of Ancient Greek history. She focuses on ancient literacy, oral tradition and performance culture as well as Greek law and society, Greek historiography, Greek relations with the Persians, and the Greek polis. Kathy Sylva is an educational psychologist. She is Professor Emeritus of Educational Psychology at the University of Oxford. Biography Sylva has a BA in Psychology and Social relations, and a master's degree and PHD in Developmental Psychology, all from Harvard University. In 2002 Sylva was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Open University. She also received an honorary doctorate from Oxford Brookes University in 2005. Penelope Summerfield, FBA, FRHistS, FAcSS (born 1951), commonly known as Penny Summerfield, is an English historian and retired academic.
