Fantasy
Fantasy is a genre of speculative fiction involving Magic (supernatural), magical elements, typically set in a fictional universe and sometimes inspired by mythology and folklore. Its roots are in oral traditions, which then became fantasy literature and drama. From the twentieth century, it has expanded further into various media, including film, television, graphic novels, manga, animations and video games. Fantasy is distinguished from the genres of science fiction and horror fiction, horror by the respective absence of scientific or macabre themes, although these genres overlap. In popular culture, the fantasy genre predominantly features settings that emulate Earth, but with a sense of otherness. In its broadest sense, however, fantasy consists of works by many writers, artists, filmmakers, and musicians from ancient mythology, myths and legends to many recent and popular works. Septimus Heap
'' Septimus Heap'' is a series of fantasy novels featuring a protagonist of the same name written by English author Angie Sage. In all, it features seven novels, entitled ''Magyk'', '' Flyte'', '' Physik'', ''Queste'', '' Syren'', ''Darke'', and ''Fyre''. The first, (''Magyk''), was published in 2005 and the final, (''Fyre''), in 2013. The Shapeshifter
''The Shapeshifter'' is a series of books by Ali Sparkes. The series follows the life of a boy named Dax Jones and is primarily set in England, firstly in the Cornwall area and later in the Lake District. During the first book, Finding the Fox, Dax discovers his ability to shapeshift into a fox, and is whisked away from his hated stepfamily by the government. Dax is one of a number of Colas (Children of Limitless Ability), young people who possess amazing supernatural powers. Some of his classmates are able to heal, move objects with their mind, communicate with the dead, or see into the future. These children attend a school called Tregarren College in Cornwall, which is later destroyed by a tidal wave, and the children move to Fenton Lodge, in the Lake District. Her works include the Shifting Circles Series, the Samaria Series, the Twelve Houses Series, and a rewriting of Jane Eyre, ''Jenna Starborn''. She works as a journalist in St. Louis, Missouri and is a graduate of Northwestern University. Shinn is a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Rams fan and is also a big fan of the TV Show ''Lost''. She is a frequent attender of science-fiction/fantasy conventions. Terry Brooks
Terence Dean Brooks (born January 8, 1944) is an American writer of fantasy fiction. He writes mainly epic fantasy, and has also written two film novelizations. He has written 23 ''New York Times'' bestsellers during his writing career, and has sold over 25 million copies of his books in print. He is one of the biggest-selling living fantasy writers. Early life Brooks was born in the rural Midwestern town of Sterling, Illinois, and spent a large part of his life living there. He is an alumnus of Hamilton College, earning his B.A. in English literature in 1966. He later obtained a J.D. degree from Washington and Lee University. Shannara
''Shannara'' is a series of high fantasy novels written by Terry Brooks, beginning with ''The Sword of Shannara'' in 1977 and concluding with ''The Last Druid'' which was released in October 2020; there is also a prequel, ''First King of Shannara''. The series blends magic and primitive technology and is set in the Four Lands, which are identified as Earth long after civilization was destroyed in a chemical and nuclear holocaust called the Great Wars. ''Shadowplay'' is a fantasy novel by American writer Tad Williams, the second book in the Shadowmarch tetralogy. It was released in hardcover in the US in March, 2007 and has been released with a region-specific hard cover in the United Kingdom (March 1, 2007). Book one, ''Shadowmarch'', was published in November 2004. Book three of Shadowmarch, '' Shadowrise'' was released in March, 2010. A fourth book, Shadowheart, completes the series. ''Shadowmarch'' was originally released between June 2001 and August 2002 as a bi-weekly episodic serial online, with a one-time $14.99 charge necessary to read chapters beyond the five initial free ones, however a lack of subscribers led to the completed first novel (and subsequent volumes) returning to orthodox publishing. Robert Paul "Tad" Williams (born March 14, 1957) is an American fantasy and science fiction writer. He is the author of the multivolume ''Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn'' series, ''Otherland'' series, and ''Shadowmarch'' series as well as the standalone novels '' Tailchaser's Song'' and The War of the Flowers. Most recently, Williams published ''The Bobby Dollar'' series. Cumulatively, over 17 million copies of Williams's works have been sold. Christopher R. Bunch (December 22, 1943 – July 4, 2005) was an American science fiction, fantasy and television writer, who wrote and co-wrote about thirty novels. Early life and education Bunch was born in Fresno, California and attended Mira Costa High School with his friend Allan Cole. He joined the United States Army and served 14 months in Vietnam during the Vietnam War in 1965–66. He was a patrol commander. He attended California State University, Los Angeles. Career He collaborated with Allan Cole on a series of books involving a hero named Sten in a galactic empire. He also wrote for ''Rolling Stone'' and was a correspondent for '' Stars and Stripes''. James Islington
James Islington (born ) is an Australian author best known for his high fantasy series ''The Licanius Trilogy''. Career Prior to becoming a writer, Islington ran a tech startup. Though he always liked the idea of becoming an author, he only began writing seriously at the age of 30. Islington originally self-published ''The Shadow of What Was Lost'' in 2014. He signed a deal with Orbit Books less than a year later. He has published two sequel novels, entitled '' An Echo of Things to Come'' (2017) and '' The Light of All That Falls'' (2019).
