Lake Thunderbird is a reservoir located in Norman, Oklahoma. The lake was constructed between 1962 and 1965 for the purpose of providing municipal water to the nearby communities of Del City, Midwest City and Norman. From May 10–13, 2010, a major tornado outbreak affected large areas of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas, with the bulk of the activity in central and eastern Oklahoma. Over 60 tornadoes, some large and multiple-vortex in nature, affected large parts of Oklahoma and adjacent parts of southern Kansas and Missouri, with the most destructive tornadoes causing severe damage in southern suburbs of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and just east of Norman, Oklahoma, where the fatalities were reported from both tornado tracks. During the morning hours of April 24, 2010, a massive and long tracked rainwrapped tornado struck the southern side of Yazoo City, Mississippi, Yazoo City, Ebenezer, Mississippi, Ebenezer, Durant, Mississippi, Durant, and Hesterville, Mississippi, Hesterville in Mississippi, resulting in 10 fatalities and injuring a further 146 people during its 149 miles path. The tornado was the strongest and deadliest of the tornado outbreak of April 22–25, 2010, and the deadliest tornado of the year.
