This is the list of 20 extrasolar planets that were detected by timing –– 8 by pulsar timing and 12 by variable star timing, sorted by orbital periods. It works by detecting the changes in radio emissions from pulsars caused by the gravity of orbiting planets. Same thing works for variable stars, not by radio but light. Planets The most massive planet detected by timing is HW Virginis b, which masses 19.2 MJ; the least massive planet is PSR B1257+12 b, which masses 0.00007 MJ or 0.022 M🜨. The longest period of any planets detected by timing is PSR B1620-26 b, which is 36525 days or 100 years; the shortest period is SDSS J1228+1040 b, which is 0.0857 days. An exoplanet or extrasolar planet is a planet outside the Solar System. The first possible evidence of an exoplanet was noted in 1917 but was not recognized as such. The first confirmation of detection occurred in 1992. A different planet, initially detected in 1988, was confirmed in 2003. There are many methods of detecting exoplanets. Transit photometry and Doppler spectroscopy have found the most, but these methods suffer from a clear observational bias favoring the detection of planets near the star; thus, 85% of the exoplanets detected are inside the tidal locking zone. In astrodynamics, the orbital eccentricity of an astronomical object is a dimensionless parameter that determines the amount by which its orbit around another body deviates from a perfect circle. RR Caeli B
RR Caeli is an eclipsing binary star in the constellation Caelum. It is 69 light years from Earth. Properties RR Caeli was first noted to be a high-proper motion star in 1955 by Jacob Luyten, and given the designation LFT 349. This star system consists of a red dwarf of spectral type M6 and a white dwarf that orbit each other every seven hours; the former is 18% as massive as the Sun, while the latter has 44% of the Sun's mass. The red dwarf is tidally locked with the white dwarf, meaning it displays the same side to the heavier star. The system is also a post-common-envelope binary, and the red dwarf star is transferring material onto the white dwarf. HU Aquarii (abbreviated HU Aqr) is an eclipsing binary system approximately 620 light-years away from the Sun, forming a cataclysmic variable of AM Herculis-type. PSR B1257+12 c, alternatively designated PSR B1257+12 B, also named Poltergeist, is an extrasolar planet approximately 2,300 light-years away in the constellation of Virgo. It was one of the first planets ever discovered outside the Solar System, and is one of three pulsar planets known to be orbiting the pulsar PSR B1257+12. Over four times as massive as the Earth, it circles the primary at a distance of 0.36 AU with an orbital period of approximately 66 days.
