List Of Emmerdale Farm Characters (1972–1973)
The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the British soap opera ''Emmerdale Farm'' in 1972 and 1973, by order of first appearance. The first episode of ''Emmerdale Farm'' was broadcast on 16 October 1972. Marian Wilks is the first character to be seen on screen, riding her horse past Peggy Skilbeck who speaks the serial's first lines of dialogue asking her husband, Matt Skilbeck who Marian is. Peggy's widowed mother, Annie Sugden, brother, Joe Sugden and grandfather Sam Pearson are the next to be seen, preparing for Jacob's Sugden's funeral. Jack Sugden is seen in The Woolpack along with landlord Amos Brearly, watching his father's funeral procession go by. Following the funeral, Marian's father, Henry Wilks visits Annie to discuss right of way over adjoining land to Emmerdale Farm. Janie Harker makes her first appearance on October 23. Ronald Magill
Ronald Edmund Magill (21 April 1920 – 6 September 2007) was an English actor. He is best remembered for playing Amos Brearly in the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'' from the first episode in 1972 to 1991, and appeared again in this role in 1994 and 1995. Early life Magill was born in 1920 in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. The child of two teachers, his father died when he was aged 9 and he then grew up in an orphanage in Birmingham, visiting his mother in Ireland during the holidays. After leaving school he became a tyre salesman. During World War II Magill served in the Royal Corps of Signals and was a member of " Stars in Battledress". In Egypt he helped build a theatre where the company staged plays. Stage career Following the war, Magill worked with the Arena Theatre Company and rep. Edward Peel is an English television and stage actor. He was described by ''The Times'' in 2010 as a "veteran star of TV dramas" and "a familiar face on television for the past 40 years". Pat Sugden
Patricia Ruth "Pat" Sugden (also Harker and Merrick) is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by actresses Lynn Dalby and Helen Weir. Development Pat is characterised as a "passionate and strong minded" female. Pat easily settles into farm life and contributes by taking over control of Sam Pearson's (Toke Townley) vegetable garden. Writers developed a marriage between Pat and Jack Sugden (Clive Hornby). The Sugdens are a fictional family in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. Robert Sugden (also Sugden-Dingle) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. The character originally appeared on the show regularly between 22 April 1986 and 3 October 2005.
