Comilla (; bn, কুমিল্লা, Kumillā, ), officially spelled Cumilla, is the fifth largest city of Bangladesh and second largest in Chittagong division. It is the administrative centre of the Comilla District. The name Comilla was derived from ''Komolangko'' (কমলাঙ্ক), meaning the pond of lotus. Chandpur Hasan Ali Government High School stands along the Chandpur–Cumilla highway in the heart of Chandpur city, Bangladesh. History The school was established in 1885 by philanthropist Hassan Ali, who hailed from the neighboring Lakshmipur District. The school was established during celebration era of Silver Jubilee of Queen Victoria, therefore, it was named as Chandpur Hasan Ali Jubilee High School. Since May 1, 1969 the then East Pakistan Govt took control of the management. Initially the school was coeducational for boys and girls. Laksam ( bn, লাকসাম) is an upazila of Comilla District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Laksam is widely known as the birthplace of Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani. History Laksam was made into an upazila in 1983. On 6 April 1971 more than 200 people were killed by Pakistani army at Ajgara Bazar during the Bangladesh Liberation war. The Pakistan army was defeated on 12 December 1971 in the upazila. During the course of the war, 17 freedom fighters died along with numerous Pakistani soldiers.
