The diocesan governor of kristiansand was a government agency of the Kingdom of Norway. The title was (before 1919) and in 1919 all stiftamt were abolished in favor of equal counties ( no, fylker). The (diocesan county) of ''Stavanger'' was established in 1662 by the King. It was originally made up of three subordinate counties: Stavanger amt, Bratsberg amt, and Agdesiden amt. In 1671, Agdesiden was divided into two new counties: Lister og Mandal amt and Nedenæs amt. Stavanger stiftamt was led by a ''stiftamtmann'' and the subordinate counties were led by an ''amtmann''. The diocesan governor ( no, Stiftamtmann) was the head government official that oversaw the civil administration within a diocese in the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway and later in Norway. The bishop of the diocese oversaw the religious administration in the diocese and together, the two officials were the highest officials in the diocese, reporting directly to the king. Each diocese typically was made up of several counties which were led by a county governor ( no, amtmann). The diocesan governor oversaw all the county governors within the diocese. The diocesan governor was the king's representative in the diocese and their job was to ensure that the king's orders and laws were obeyed. The diocesan governor was also to make sure that the bishop of the diocese did not succumb to heresy or other problems. List Of County Governors Of Vest-Agder
The county governor of Vest-Agder county in Norway represented the central government administration in the county. The office of county governor is a government agency of the Kingdom of Norway; the title was (before 1919) and then (after 1919). On 1 January 2016, the office was merged with the county governor of Aust-Agder into the county governor of Aust- og Vest-Agder in preparation for the merger of the two counties on 1 January 2020. The diocesan county called '' Stavanger stiftamt'' was established in 1669 by the king and it had several subordinate counties (amt) including ''Agdesiden amt''. Frederik Adeler
Frederik Adeler (1700-1766) was a Dano-Norwegian government official and landowner. He served as a County Governor and County Governor of several counties in Norway and Denmark from 1727 until his death in 1766. He was the son of Privy Councilor Frederick Christian von Adeler (died 1726) and grandson of Admiral Cort Adeler. He traveled abroad in 1722 with two of his brothers, visited Germany and the Netherlands, England, France and Italy in 4 years, and shortly after his return in 1726 became chamberlain to Queen Anna Sophie. At the same time as his marriage in 1727, he became a state councilor and county governor of Kalundborg, Sæbygård, Dragsholm and Holbæk counties in Denmark. Joachim Hartvig Johan von Barner (1699–1768) was a Danish-German military officer and government official. He served as the County Governor of several counties in Norway and Denmark. Barner was born in Mecklenburg which was part of the Holy Roman Empire, but moved to Denmark in his youth. He started out as a military officer, serving in the Danish military until 1746. In 1746, he was appointed as the Diocesan Governor of Christianssand stiftamt (and simultaneously serving as the County Governor of Nedenæs amt). Henry VI (German: ''Heinrich VI.''; November 1165 – 28 September 1197), a member of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, was King of Germany (King of the Romans) from 1169 and Holy Roman Emperor from 1191 until his death. Heinrich Von Reuss
Heinrich von Reuss (1707–1783) was a German noble and Danish government official. He served as the County Governor of several counties in Norway and Denmark. Starting from a distinctly pietistic home, he was sent in 1732 to Denmark. He was appointed chamberlain in 1739 and a year later he was made a knight of the Order of the Dannebrog. In 1742 he was appointed Diocesan Governor of Christianssand stiftamt (and simultaneously named County Governor of Nedenæs amt) in southern Norway. He held that post until 1746 when he was transferred to Denmark be the County Governor of Sorø amt. The following year he was named as chief court officer at the newly formed Sorø Academy. During his stay in this country, Count Reuss acquired the Danish language so well that at the inauguration of the academy in 1747 he gave the opening speech in Danish. Carl Juel
Carl Juel (22 June 1706 – 1 September 1767), was a Danish statesman and court official, councillor, and diocesan governor. Personal life Carl Juel was born on 22 June 1706 in Copenhagen. He was the son of statesman and nobleman Knud Juel (1665–1709) and Christine Elisabeth Knuth (1675–1738). His older brother, Niels Juel (1696–1766), was a court official. Juel was married three times. He married Christiane Henriette Louise von Schleinitz on 15 August 1738. She died on 12 August 1756. On 24 March 1759, he married Anna Margrethe Juel (1741–1761). He was married for the third time on 24 March 1762, to Amalie Christiane von Råben (1736–1803). Juel is known to have had at least two sons with Amalie, the eldest of which was born on 7 April 1765 and either named Niels or Frederik. Johan Albrecht With
Johan Albrecht With (1683–1754) was a Danish military officer and governor. He served as the County Governor of several counties in Norway and Denmark. He began studying at the University in 1698, and after some time, he then enlisted in the military in 1710 and was a lieutenant in the Danish cavalry. By 1719, he had advanced to the rank of lieutenant colonel in Jutland's National Cavalry Regiment. In 1721, he left the military and the following year he got a job as a translator at the Øresund customs office. King Christian VI of Denmark appointed him in 1730 to serve in Norway as the Diocesan Governor of Christianssand stiftamt (and simultaneously as the County Governor of Nedenæs amt). Henrik Adeler
Henrik Adeler (1660–1718) was a Norwegian civil servant and politician. He served as the County Governor in Bratsberg amt from 1692 until 1710. Then he served as the Diocesan Governor of Christianssand stiftamt from 1711 until his death in 1718. During his time in Christianssand, he also served as County Governor of one of the subordinate counties: Nedenæs amt. During his time as diocesan governor in Christiansand, he came into bitter conflict with the Bishop of Christianssand, Jens Bircherod. The bishop sent a complaint against him to the king in 1712. The complaint led to a sharp reprimand for both, but especially towards Adeler, directly from the king.
