Darney
Darney () is a commune in the Vosges department in Grand Est in northeastern France. It is located in the Vôge Plateau, around the location of the source of the river Saône. Darney is known for its forest of oak and beech trees. History Darney is built on a promontory dominating the valley of the Saône. The Romans built a castle here to control the area, and watch the forested countryside. As a fortified town in the Middle Ages, Darney had towers and two fortified gates, and was known as the "city of thirty towers". Theobald II, Duke of Lorraine gave the town its church in 1308. France is divided into 577 constituencies (''circonscriptions'') for the election of deputies to the lower legislative House, the National Assembly (539 in Metropolitan France, 27 in the overseas departments and territories, and 11 for French residents overseas). Deputies are elected in a two round system to a term fixed to a maximum of five years. In 2010, a new set of constituency boundaries was adopted, with the dual purpose of ensuring a more equal number of voters per constituency, and of providing seats in the National Assembly to representatives of French citizens resident outside France. 33 constituencies were abolished, and 33 new ones created. Of the latter, 17 are in metropolitan France, five are in overseas France, while the rest of the world was divided into 11 constituencies for French residents overseas. André Chassaigne
André Chassaigne (born 2 July 1950) is a French politician who has presided over the Democratic and Republican Left group in the National Assembly since 2012. A member of the French Communist Party (PCF), he has been the member of the National Assembly for the 5th constituency of the Puy-de-Dôme department since 2002. Biography A native of Clermont-Ferrand, Chassaigne worked as a middle school principal in Saint-Amant-Roche-Savine from 1981 to 2002. He became deputy mayor in 1977 before assuming the mayorship from 1983, an office he resigned in 2010. He was succeeded by his son François Chassaigne. He also served as the general councillor of Puy-de-Dôme for the canton of Saint-Amant-Roche-Savine from 1979 to 2004 and a regional councillor of Auvergne from 1998 to 2000 and again from 2010 until 2015.
