List Of DRG Locomotives And Railcars
The railway vehicle classes covered by this list of DRG locomotives and railbuses belonged to the ''Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft'' or DRG (1924–37) and its successor, the ''Deutsche Reichsbahn'' or DRB (post 1937). The DRG (lit. German Imperial Railway Company) was formed under the terms of the Dawes Plan from the ''Deutsche Reichseisenbahnen'' (lit. Imperial Railways), a merger of the various German state railways after the First World War. The tables are generally organized in accordance with the DRG's numbering schemes for the various types of vehicles. A brief explanation of this may be found in the articles on the numbering scheme of the German railways and German steam locomotive classification. After the end of the Second World War the West German part of the DRB became the ''Deutsche Bundesbahn'' (DB), but its East German counterpart continued to be called the ''Deutsche Reichsbahn'' (DR) – see Deutsche Reichsbahn (East Germany). The DB and the DR later introduced ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft
The ''Deutsche Reichsbahn'', also known as the German National Railway, the German State Railway, German Reich Railway, and the German Imperial Railway, was the German national railway system created after the end of World War I from the regional railways of the individual states of the German Empire. The ''Deutsche Reichsbahn'' has been described as "the largest enterprise in the capitalist world in the years between 1920 and 1932"; nevertheless its importance "arises primarily from the fact that the Reichsbahn was at the center of events in a period of great turmoil in German history". Overview The company was founded on 1 April 1920 as the ("German Imperial Railways") when the Weimar Republic, which still used the nation-state term of the previous monarchy, (German Reich, hence the usage of the in the name of the railway; the monarchical term was ), took national control of the German railways, which had previously been run by the German states. In 1924 it was reorganised ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

DRG Class 04
The two German Class 04 steam locomotives were experimental engines with the Deutsche Reichsbahn, that were derived from the Class 03 standard locomotives ('' Einheitsloks''). History In 1932, the Deutsche Reichsbahn tried to raise boiler overpressures from by using high-tensile steel. These engines, built by the firm of Krupp, were initially tested at the Grunewald Locomotive Testing Office. With a specific steam consumption value of 5.2 kg/PSh with respect to their indicated output, the locomotives clearly undercut the very low steam consumption value of the Class 03 by over 1 kg/PSh. The coal consumption based on the effective power at the coupling hook, was 0.96 kg/PSh compared with 1.13 kg/PSh on the 03. The medium-pressure boilers did not prove to be stable, and after a short time damage occurred to the firebox. Since the locomotives did not meet expectations even after modifications and repairs, the permissible boiler overpressure was finally re ... KkStB Class 206
The Imperial-Royal State Railways (german: k.k. Staatsbahnen) abbr. ''kkStB'') or Imperial-Royal Austrian State Railways (''k.k. österreichische Staatsbahnen'',The name incorporating "Austrian" appears, for example, in the 1907 official state handbook (''Staatshandbuch'') and on the title page of the Imperial-Royal Railway Ministry publication''Die neuen österr(eichischen) Alpenbahnen'' Maass’ Söhne, Vienna, 1908.) was the state railway organisation in the Cisleithanian (Austrian) part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. History The introduction of railway traffic in the Austrian Empire had been pushed by pioneers like physicist Franz Josef Gerstner (1756–1832), who advocated a railway connection from the Vltava basin across the Bohemian Massif to the Danube river. After in 1810 a first long horse-drawn railway line was built at the Eisenerz mine in Styria for the transport of iron stones, in 1832 a wagonway between Austrian Linz and České Budějovice (Budweis) in Boh ... Prussian S 5
Prussia, , Old Prussian: ''Prūsa'' or ''Prūsija'' was a German state on the southeast coast of the Baltic Sea. It formed the German Empire under Prussian rule when it united the German states in 1871. It was ''de facto'' dissolved by an emergency decree transferring powers of the Prussian government to German Chancellor Franz von Papen in 1932 and ''de jure'' by an Allied decree in 1947. For centuries, the House of Hohenzollern ruled Prussia, expanding its size with the Prussian Army. Prussia, with its capital at Königsberg and then, when it became the Kingdom of Prussia in 1701, Berlin, decisively shaped the history of Germany. In 1871, Prussian Minister-President Otto von Bismarck united most German principalities into the German Empire under his leadership, although this was considered to be a "Lesser Germany" because Austria and Switzerland were not included. In November 1918, the monarchies were abolished and the nobility lost its political power during the ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Prussian S 3
The Prussian Class S 3s were saturated steam locomotives developed by Hanomag for the Prussian state railways and were built from 1893. Design They were a further development of the S 2 and used the same boiler. The "S" stood for ''Schnellzuglokomotive'', or express locomotive, of which the S 3 was a large and powerful type. Because larger turntables with a 16-metre diameter were then being built, the wheelbase could be longer, which gave it better riding qualities. The locomotive had one high-pressure and one low-pressure cylinder, coupled to four driving wheels in a 4-4-0 configuration. They were the first class of locomotives to use superheating, a process in which the steam leaving the boiler is re-heated, resulting in better efficiency. Procurement The railway procured a total of 1,027 locomotives of this class up to 1904, and they were stabled at almost all locomotive depots (''Betriebswerk'' or ''Bw''), making them the most numerous German express train locomotives. DRB Class 06
The German DRB Class 06 engines were standard steam locomotives (''Einheitsdampflokomotiven'') with the Deutsche Reichsbahn#1937: Deutsche Reichsbahn (DRB), Deutsche Reichsbahn (DRB) designed to haul express train services. They were the only German locomotives with a 4-8-4, 4-8-4 (Northern) Whyte notation, wheel arrangement. History The two Class 06 locomotives built by the firm of Krupp in 1939 were the largest, heaviest and most powerful locomotives in the Deutsche Reichsbahn. They were built for heavy express train duties in hilly terrain. The performance requirement was for the transportation of 650 tons at 120 km/h. On ramps of 1:100 it was to still be capable of maintaining 60 km/h. The Class 06 was given the same boiler as the DRG Class 45, Class 45 and many of the same components as the DRG Class 41, Class 41. The running gear, with four coupled axles, had a wheelbase of 6,75 m. In trials, the vehicles confirmed their remarkable capability and runni ...
