Olga Chekhova
Olga Konstantinovna Chekhova (; russian: Ольга Константиновна Чехова; 14 April 1897 – 9 March 1980), known in Germany as Olga Tschechowa, was a Russian-German actress. Her film roles include the female lead in Alfred Hitchcock's ''Mary'' (1931). Biography Olga Konstantinovna Knipper was born on 14 April 1897 (although some sources give 26 April or 13 April), the daughter of Konstantin Knipper (1868–1929), a railway engineer, and Yelena Luise "Lulu" Knipper (née Ried, 1874–1940), both Lutherans of ethnic German ancestry. Olga was the niece and namesake of Olga Knipper ( Anton Chekhov's wife). She went to school in Tsarskoye Selo but, after watching Eleonora Duse, joined the Moscow Art Theatre's studio. There she met the Russian-Jewish actor Mikhail Chekhov (Anton's nephew) in 1914 and married him the same year, taking his surname as her own. Their daughter, also named Olga, was born in 1916. Přemysl Pražský
Přemysl Pražský was an early Czech film director, film actor, screenwriter and radio producer. He directed and appeared in a number of films in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s and 1930s, directing comedy films such as '' Two Mothers'' (1921), '' The Mysterious Beauty'' (1922), ''The Countess from Podskalí'' (1926) and '' Prague Seamstresses'' (1929). He is best known for his adaptation of the Josef Hais Týnecký novel ''Battalion'' (1927). He often worked with Theodor Pištěk. Early life and career Pražský was born on 24 July 1893 in Nýřany. He began his studies in 1910 and continued them until 1914. He moved to Prague and began to work in the theater. He became the director of the Švanda Theatre during this time and was a frequent guest at the Vinohrady Theatre. It wasn't until 1919 that he moved to filmmaking. Tamara Đorđević (born Italina Lida Kravanja; 7 July 1907 – 10 May 1979), known professionally as Ita Rina, was a Slovenian film actress and beauty queen. She was one of the major film stars in Germany and Czechoslovakia in the late 1920s and the early 1930s. ''Tonka of the Gallows'' (Czech: ''Tonka Šibenice'', French: ''Tonischka'', German: ''Die Galgentoni'') is a 1930 Czech drama film directed by Karl Anton and starring Ita Rina, Vera Baranovskaya and Josef Rovenský. It is an adaptation of the novella ''Die Himmelfahrt der Galgentoni'' by Egon Erwin Kisch. The movie was shot as a silent movie, but later Czech, German and French post-synchronized sound versions were made. Plot The movie follows story of a country girl Tonka who lives in Prague and works as a prostitute unbeknownst to her family. One day a convicted murderer Prokůpek requests to spend a night with a girl before his execution. Policemen ask many prostitutes if they're willing to do this job, but all of them refuse except Tonka. As a result, none of her customers wants to visit her again and other prostitutes shun her.
