World Boxing Association
The World Boxing Association (WBA), formerly known as the National Boxing Association (NBA), is the oldest and one of four major organizations which sanction professional boxing bouts, alongside the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). The WBA awards its world championship title at the professional level. Founded in the United States in 1921 by 13 state representatives as the NBA, in 1962 it changed its name in recognition of boxing's growing popularity worldwide and began to gain other nations as members. By 1975, a majority of votes were held by Latin American nations and the organization headquarters had moved to Panama. After being located during the 1990s and early 2000s in Venezuela, the organization offices returned to Panama in 2007. Almendra Yamileth Mercado Duarte (born 16 March 1998) is a Mexican professional boxer who has held the WBC female super bantamweight title since 2019. As of April 2021, she is ranked as the world's second best active female super bantamweight by BoxRec. Marlen Esparza
Marlen Esparza (born July 29, 1989) is an American professional boxer who held the WBC female flyweight title since June 2021 and the WBA and ''The Ring'' female flyweight title since April 2022. As an amateur she became the first American woman to qualify for the Olympics in the first year that women's boxing was an Olympic event, going on to win a bronze medal in the women's flyweight division at the 2012 Olympics in London. Mizuki Hiruta
is a Japanese professional boxer, who has held the WBO super flyweight title since 2022. Amateur boxing career Hiruta took up boxing while attending the Okayama Technical High School and continued to train while at the JSDF Physical Training School. Hiruta was able to reach the finals of the 2016 All Japan Women's Championships, competing in the flyweight event, but was defeated by the 2014 World Championships bronze medalist Madoka Wada in the final bout of the tournament.
