A condominium or "condo" is a form of housing tenure and other real property where a specified part of a piece of real estate (usually of an apartment house) is individually owned. Use of land access to common facilities in the piece such as hallways, heating system, elevators, and exterior areas are executed under legal rights associated with the individual ownership. These rights are controlled by the association of owners that jointly represent ownership of the whole piece. The United States Census Bureau indexes information about condominiums and cooperative apartments, among other types of households, at its Survey of Market Absorption of Apartments. A condominium (or condo for short) is an ownership structure whereby a building is divided into several units that are each separately owned, surrounded by common areas that are jointly owned. The term can be applied to the building or complex itself, as well as each individual unit within. 1100 Wilshire is a 37- story, residential and commercial skyscraper completed in 1987 in the Central City West neighborhood of Los Angeles. It is the 35th tallest building in the city, the 2nd tallest residential building in the entire Southern California region, and the 4th tallest residential building in the state of California. The Baskerville Apartment Building is an early apartment constructed in 1913 in Madison, Wisconsin, two blocks south of the capitol. In 1988 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. History Around 1900, the population of Madison was growing rapidly, driven by the expansion of the University, government, and industry. Many people couldn't drive in to work from outside the downtown because automobiles weren't yet common. Around 1910, to meet the growing need for housing downtown, developers began to build small apartment buildings. 99 West on South Temple (99 West) is a residential condominium tower in the City Creek development in Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, that was originally or formerly known as Promontory on South Temple, Promontory Tower, and The Promontory, and Tower One. The building rises tall, making it the fifth-tallest building in Salt Lake City, and contains 30 floors. Construction was completed before the official grand opening of the City Creek shopping center. The tower contains 185 individually-owned residential units.
