Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 (cancelled due to World War II), have successively run every four years since. The Games were called the British Empire Games from 1930 to 1950, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games from 1954 to 1966, and British Commonwealth Games from 1970 to 1974. Athletes with a disability are included as full members of their national teams since 2002, making the Commonwealth Games the first fully inclusive international multi-sport event. In 2018, the Games became the first global multi-sport event to feature an equal number of men's and women's medal events and four years later they are the first global multi-sport event to have more events for women than men. Cassie Jackman
Cassandra "Cassie" Jackman (born 22 December 1972 and competing in some years as Cassie Campion) is a former English squash player who won the World Open in 1999. She was England's leading player throughout much of the 1990s and early 21st century. She retired due to a recurring back injury in December 2004. Jackman was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2004 Birthday Honours for services to squash. Career Born in North Walsham, Norfolk, she won five British under-23 titles, and five senior British national titles. She represented England at four World Team Championships in 1992 in Vancouver, 1994 in Saint Peter Port, Guernsey, 1996 in Malaysia and 2004 in Amsterdam. Tesni Evans
Tesni Evans (born 15 October 1992 in Cardiff) is a professional squash player who represents Wales and is a five time Welsh national squash champion. She reached a career-high world ranking of World No.9 in November 2018, becoming the highest-ranked Welsh woman of all-time and the first to break into the Top 10. Evans has represented Team Wales in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2018 Commonwealth Games and in the WSF World Team Championships. The 25-year-old, born in Cardiff but living in Rhyl, became the first Welsh player to land the prestigious British National Championship, when in 2018, she beat Alison Waters 11–5, 11–9, 11–7 in the final in Manchester. Sarah-Jane Perry (born 15 May 1990 in Birmingham) is a professional squash player who represents England and Great Britain. She reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 5 in July 2020. Education Perry was educated at Kenilworth School, Kenilworth, UK, and then graduated from Warwick University, England with a BEng (Hons) degree in 2011. Laura Jane Massaro (née Lengthorn; born 2 November 1983) is a retired professional squash player from England. Career She was born in Great Yarmouth and attended Albany High School, Chorley, which is now called Albany Academy. In July 2007, she married Danny Massaro and became Laura Lengthorn-Massaro. She subsequently dropped 'Lengthorn' from her name and is now known professionally as Laura Massaro. She won her first top-level title at the German Open in 2004 and went on to become British Open champion in 2013 and World Champion in 2014, so become the first Englishwoman to hold both titles at once. Kasey Brown (born 1 August 1985) is a former professional squash player from Australia. She reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 5 in December 2011. Career Brown was born in Taree, New South Wales was the Australian junior champion in 2003 and 2004 and was then the senior champion in 2006 and in the same year also won the Australian Open title. Brown was coached by Rodney Martin and was based in Greenwich, Connecticut. During 2006, she won five WISPA events in Australia as well as the Central Open in New Zealand. Jennifer Duncalf (born 10 November 1982) is a former professional squash player from England. She reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 2 in December 2009. Career Duncalf was born in Haarlem, Netherlands but was a pupil at Harrogate Grammar School where she attended from 1994-2001. As a junior player, she won the European Junior Championship title. Duncalf won the European Individual Championship title in 2006 and 2007, and the British National Championship title in 2007 and 2009. Datuk Nicol Ann David (born August 26, 1983) is a retired female Malaysian professional squash player. Beginning in August 2006, David was the world number one for a record-breaking 108 consecutive months, finally ceding the ranking in September 2015 to Raneem El Weleily. She has won the World Open title a record 8 times in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014, as well as the British Open title in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Shelley Kitchen
Shelley Celia Kitchen (born 2 December 1979, in Kaitaia, New Zealand) is a female professional squash player from New Zealand. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Kitchen beat World No. 1 Nicol David of Malaysia in the third-place match to capture the women's singles Bronze Medal. She also won a Silver Medal in the women's doubles, partnering Tamsyn Leevey. Earlier in the year, Kitchen and Leevey won the women's doubles title at the World Doubles Squash Championships. In 2004, Kitchen finished runner-up in the mixed doubles at the World Doubles Squash Championships, partnering Glen Wilson. Kitchen had her first child in February 2010. After getting sick in an attempt to come back for the 2010 Commonwealth games, she announced her retirement in December 2010. Natalie Grinham
Natalie Marie Grinham (born 16 March 1978 in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia) is an Australian professional squash player. During her career, she has won three Commonwealth Games Gold Medals, and finished runner-up at both the World Open and the British Open. She reached the World No. 2 ranking in 2007. She represented Australia in international squash competitions up to 2006. She is married to the Dutch squash player Tommy Berden, and took up Dutch citizenship in February 2008. Both Tommy and Natalie became the first husband and wife team to win a joint championship in squash after winning the respective trophies at the inaugural edition of the Tranzparanz Open in June 2006 which was held in Almere, Netherlands.
