Andrew Phillip Scipione, (born 31 March 1958) is a former police officer who served as Commissioner of the New South Wales Police Force, succeeding Ken Moroney on 31 August 2007. He retired from the New South Wales Police Force on 31 March 2017. He was farewelled with a guard of honour and was marched out by 100 of his fellow officers. His replacement as commissioner was Mick Fuller. Personal Scipione was born in London, England, on 31 March 1958 to an Irish mother and an Italian father. He immigrated to Australia with his family as an infant. Kenneth Edward Moroney, (born 15 September 1945) is a former police officer who served as the Commissioner of the New South Wales Police Force from 2002 until 2007. Personal life Born in the inner-Sydney suburb of Glebe, New South Wales, Moroney moved with his family to the south-western suburb of Villawood as a child in the 1950s. He completed his schooling at De La Salle, Bankstown. He has undergraduate and post-graduate university qualifications. Moroney married his wife Bev on 1 June 1968. She died on 24 May 2015 after a long illness. Two of their three sons followed Moroney into the police force. John Keith Avery, (7 August 1927 – 19 May 2018) was the Commissioner of the New South Wales Police from 1984 to 1991. Commissioner of New South Wales Police John Keith Avery was the 17th leader of the organisation and the 10th person known under the title of Commissioner of Police. Cecil Roy "Cec" Abbott, (7 August 1924 – 12 March 2014) was the Commissioner of the New South Wales Police in Australia from 30 December 1981 to 7 August 1984. 1.07 MB Private life Cecil Roy Abbot was born in Hurstville on 7 August 1924 and grew up in Hurstville. Jim Lees
James Travers Lees, QPM (18 August 1920 – 3 September 2004) was the Commissioner of the New South Wales Police from 17 October 1979 to 29 December 1981. Private life Lees was born in 1920 at Hornsby, New South Wales, and went on to attend the Hurlstone Agricultural High School. He had initially wanted to be a farmer but found that he was not suited for a life on the land. Lees married his wife Norma in October 1944. They went on to have a family with children Sue, John and Peter. Lees also taught a Sunday School and was heavily involved with his church. He also established the Police Christian Fellowship.
