This article lists the colonial governors of Italian Somaliland from 1889 to 1941. They administered the territory on behalf of the Kingdom of Italy. Giacomo De Martino (governor)
Giacomo De Martino (21 September 1849 – 23 November 1921) was an Italian politician, who was governor in the Italian colonies. Biography Born in London in 1849 from a rich Italian family. He was one of the main supporters of the Italian colonialism since he was young. Initially he was a diplomat, but soon started to do a political career. In 1905 he was elected at the Italian Senate. In 1906 De Martino created the ''Istituto coloniale italiano'', in order to promote the development of the Italian colonies and their management. He had held several colonial posts as he had been a governor of the Italian colonies of Somaliland (1910–1916), Eritrea (1916–1919), and finally Cyrenaica (1919–1921), where he had died at office. Ruggero Santini (April 16, 1870 – April 4, 1958) was an Italian general. He was the colonial governor of Somaliland. He fought in the First Italo-Ethiopian War and Italo-Turkish War. Italian East Africa
Italian East Africa ( it, Africa Orientale Italiana, AOI) was an Italian colony in the Horn of Africa. It was formed in 1936 through the merger of Italian Somalia, Italian Eritrea, and the newly occupied Ethiopian Empire, conquered in the Second Italo-Ethiopian War. Italian East Africa was divided into six governorates. Eritrea and Somalia, Italian possessions since the 1880s, were enlarged with captured Ethiopian territory and became the Eritrea and Somalia Governorates. The remainder of "Italian Ethiopia" consisted the Harar, Galla-Sidamo, Amhara, and Scioa Governorates. Fascist colonial policy had a divide and conquer characteristic, and favoured the Oromos, the Somalis and other Muslims in an attempt to weaken their ties to the Amharas who had been the ruling ethnic group in the Ethiopian Empire. Rodolfo Graziani, 1st Marquis of Neghelli (; 11 August 1882 – 11 January 1955), was a prominent Italian military officer in the Kingdom of Italy's ''Regio Esercito'' ("Royal Army"), primarily noted for his campaigns in Africa before and during World War II. A dedicated fascist and prominent member of the National Fascist Party, he was a key figure in the Italian military during the reign of Victor Emmanuel III. Guido Corni (August 25, 1883 – February 28, 1946) was a colonial governor of Italian Somaliland. Life Born in Modena province, he began in his youth he followed Risorgimento ideals. He graduated in industrial chemistry and was a successful entrepreneur: he created the "Fabbrica Modenese Utensileria e Ferramenta Corni Bassani". Cesare Maria De Vecchi, 1st Conte di Val Cismon (14 November 1884 – 23 June 1959) was an Italian soldier, colonial administrator and Fascist politician. Biography De Vecchi was born in Casale Monferrato on 14 November 1884. After graduating in jurisprudence he became a successful lawyer in Turin. His stance on the First World War was interventionist, and he himself took part in the final events of the conflict, finishing the war with the rank of captain and various decorations for valor.
