Mongomo is a town in the province of Wele-Nzas on mainland Equatorial Guinea, on the eastern border, roughly 1 km (0.62 mi) west of Gabon's Woleu-Ntem Province. Religion Its cathedral basilica of the Immaculate Conception is the episcopal see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mongomo. Miscellenea Equatorial Guinea's first president Francisco Macías Nguema and the current President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo were both born in Mongomo, hence the term ''clan of Mongomo'' to define those belonging to his ruling clique. Annobón ( es, Provincia de Annobón; pt, Ano-Bom), and formerly as ''Anno Bom'' and ''Annabona'', is a province (smallest province in both area and population) of Equatorial Guinea consisting of the island of Annobón, formerly also Pigalu and Pagalu, and its associated islets in the Gulf of Guinea. According to the 2015 census, Annobón had 5,314 inhabitants, a small population increase from the 5,008 registered by the 2001 census. The official language is Spanish but most of the inhabitants speak a creole form of Portuguese. The island's main industries are fishing and forestry. San Antonio de Palé, formerly known as St Antony, São Antonio de Praia and Palea, is the capital of Annobón (an island in Equatorial Guinea that was once part of the Spanish Empire in Africa). The town has 600 inhabitants, the majority of whom speak the Annobonese Creole. It is located in the extreme north of the island, which is the driest and flattest area. It is home to Annobón Airport, a dock, a hospital, a school, a lighthouse, a radio station, and a Catholic mission. History Founded by Portuguese explorers, the town served as a center of evangelization for runaway slaves from Angola. Capuchin and Carmelite missionaries first made the town their base in 1580. Cogo (also known as Kogo or Koszho, formerly Puerto Iradier) is a remote town on the Muni River, Muni estuary in Río Muni, Equatorial Guinea, lying east of Acalayong. It is known for its partly ruined Spanish Colonial architecture. It is the southernmost city of the Littoral province of Equatorial Guinea. It is located 121 km from Bata, Equatorial Guinea, Bata by road or 117 km when traveling through Acalayong.
