The production of telenovelas in Chile originates in the 1960s and has continued to this day. ''Los días jóvenes'' (1967), broadcast by Canal 13, is considered the first telenovela for its format that consists of several episodes with consecutive broadcasts and a long-term plot unlike other television formats. Canal 13 (Chilean TV Channel)
Canal 13 is a Chilean free-to-air television channel. It was launched on 21 August 1959, on VHF channel 2 of Santiago, in a broadcast led by a group of engineers from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Subsequently, the TV station moved its frequency to VHF channel 13, which gave rise to its current name. In its beginnings, one of its most important milestones was the broadcast of the 1962 FIFA World Cup, held in Chile. Owned by the Luksic Group, Canal 13 is the second oldest television station in Chile. It was named ''Corporación de Televisión de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile'' (Television Corporation of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile) until 2010. ''Amores de mercado'' (lit: ''Market Lovers'') is a Chilean television series created by Fernando Aragón and Arnaldo Madrid, that aired on TVN and TV Chile from August 6, to December 28, 2001, starring Álvaro Rudolphy, Ángela Contreras, Luciano Cruz-Coke, and Alejandra Fosalba. Plot Pedro Solis (Álvaro Rudolphy) is a young lower-middle class waiter, known as Pelluco by his family and friends. One day he finds a man, Rodolfo Ruttenmeyer, identical to him. Without finding an explanation for the strange fact, Pelluco assumes the identity of Rodolfo, as he had an accident and lost his memory. ''Pampa Ilusión'' is a Chilean telenovela produced by TVN. It was written by Víctor Carrasco, Larissa Contreras, María José Galleguillos and Alexis Moreno, and directed by Vicente Sabatini. It is considered part of the so-called Golden Age of Chilean telenovelas. Set in the desolate interior of the Atacama Desert in 1934, and filmed on location in the Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works, it classifies both as a historical romance and a working-class melodrama dealing with tyranny, classism and misogyny as principal motives, but given the wide array of characters there are substories centering in themes such as innocence, religious hypocrisy, unrequited love, narcissism, betrayal and prostitution. Pablo Andrés Illanes Tapia (born March 12, 1973) is a Chilean writer, screenwriter, journalist and film director, principally known as the creator of various successful telenovelas, including ', ', '' Alguien te mira'', '' ¿Dónde está Elisa?'' and ''Conde Vrolok''. Biography Illanes studied journalism at Diego Portales University. After establishing himself as a film critic in ''Wikén'', the weekend supplement of the newspaper ''El Mercurio'', and at the defunct TV station , he wrote his first telenovela, ''Adrenalina'' (1996).
