Karlovy Vary Region
The Karlovy Vary Region or Carlsbad Region ( cs, Karlovarský kraj, German: ''Karlsbader Region'') is an administrative unit ( cs, kraj) of the Czech Republic, located in the westernmost part of its historical region of Bohemia. It is named after its capital Karlovy Vary. Spas in the region include Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Lázně. Administrative divisions The Karlovy Vary Region is divided into 3 districts: At a lower level, the region has 134 municipalities, comprising 56 in the Karlovy Vary District, 40 in the Cheb District and 38 in the Sokolov District. Population Karlovy Vary Region is the smallest region in the Czech Republic with a population of less than 300,000. Only 11 municipalities have populations greater than 5,000. Karlovy Vary
Karlovy Vary (; german: Karlsbad, formerly also spelled ''Carlsbad'' in English) is a spa town, spa city in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 46,000 inhabitants. It lies on the confluence of the rivers Ohře and Teplá. It is named after Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and the King of Bohemia, who founded the city. Karlovy Vary is the site of numerous hot springs (13 main springs, about 300 smaller springs, and the warm-water Teplá River), and is the most visited spa town in the Czech Republic. The historic city centre with the spa cultural landscape is well preserved and is protected by law as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument reservations, urban monument reservation. Kaceřov (Sokolov District)
Kaceřov (german: Katzengrün) is a municipality and village in Sokolov District in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 400 inhabitants. Administrative parts The village of Horní Pochlovice is an administrative part of Kaceřov. Geography Kaceřov is located about west of Sokolov and southwest of Karlovy Vary. It lies on the border of the Cheb Basin and Sokolov Basin. The highest point is the hill Bučina at above sea level. The Libocký Stream flows through the municipality. Jindřichovice (Sokolov District)
Jindřichovice (german: Heinrichsgrün) is a municipality and village in Sokolov District in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 500 inhabitants. Administrative parts The village of Háj is an administrative part of Jindřichovice. Geography Jindřichovice is located about north of Sokolov and northwest of Karlovy Vary. It lies in the Ore Mountains. The highest point is the mountain Vysoká jedle at above sea level. The Svatava River briefly flows along the western municipal border. Several brooks flow through the municipality. History The first written mention of Jindřichovice is in a deed of Pope Gregory X from 1273. In the 14th century, tin was mined here. Hazlov
Hazlov (german: Haslau) is a municipality and village in Cheb District in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,500 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Lipná, Polná, Skalka, Vlastislav and Výhledy are administrative parts of Hazlov. Geography Hazlov lies about northwest of Cheb and west of Karlovy Vary. Hauenštejn
Hauenštejn (Czech var.: ''Horní hrad''; german: Hauenstein) is a medieval castle in the Czech Republic. The castle is the private property of Pavel Palacký, a descendant of František Palacký. It is situated in the Ore Mountains in the territory of Krásný Les. History The castle was built in the 13th century by King Ottokar II of Bohemia or his son Wenceslaus II to guard royal paths and local mines. The first known owner was Mikuláš Winkler, burgrave of Loket Castle, who sold Hauenštejn to the monastery in Doksany. The monastery exchanged it for another building with King John of Bohemia.
