John Alcorn (singer)
John Alcorn is a Canadian jazz singer who is active in the Toronto jazz scene. Biography Born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in Trinidad, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and New Hampshire, Alcorn returned to Toronto as an adult and began performing in jazz clubs. He released his first album in 1999, and was named Male Vocalist of the Year by the ''Jazz Report'' Awards. He also earned a Dora Award in 1997 as music director and composer for Theresa Tova's play ''Still the Night''. Alcorn has also acted in a number of television films, including ''Must Be Santa'' and ''The Piano Man's Daughter''. Alcorn is the partner of puppeteer and dramatist Ronnie Burkett. Alexandra Ashley Hughes (born 31 July 1985), known by her stage name Allie X, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and visual artist. She began her career as an indie pop artist in Toronto in the mid-2000s, playing with local bands and writing and recording a handful of self-released albums. After relocating to Los Angeles, California, in 2013, Hughes began working with producers Cirkut and Billboard and achieved success with her first single released under the name Allie X, "Catch", which peaked at number 55 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and was well received by music critics.The song rose to prominence after pop singer Katy Perry referred to it as her "spring jam" on social media. The Guess Who
The Guess Who are a Canadian rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1965. The band originated in 1962 and achieved an international hit single with a cover of " Shakin' All Over" in 1965 under the name Chad Allan and the Expressions. After changing their name to The Guess Who, they found their greatest success in the late 60s and early 70s, under the leadership of singer/keyboardist Burton Cummings and guitarist Randy Bachman, with hit songs including "American Woman", " These Eyes", " No Time" and many others. During their most successful period, The Guess Who released eleven studio albums, all of which reached the charts in Canada and the United States. They may be best known for their 1970 album ''American Woman'', which reached no. 1 in Canada and no. 9 in the United States, while five other albums reached the top ten in Canada. Chad Allan (musician)
Chad Allan, (born Allan Peter Stanley Kowbel, March 29, 1943) is a Canadian musician who was the founding member and original lead singer of the Guess Who. Career Allan's first band, ''Allan and the Silvertones'', was formed while he was attending Miles MacDonell Collegiate in 1958. Then Allan brought noted Winnipeg musicians Bob Ashley, Jim Kale, Randy Bachman and Garry Peterson into the band, which was now going by the name ''Chad Allan and the Reflections'', with Allan taking his stage name from one of his favorite singers, Chad Mitchell of the Chad Mitchell Trio. They released their first two singles, ''I Just Didn't Have the Heart'' and "Tribute to Buddy Holly" on the Canadian-American label in 1962. In 1963, the band changed their name to ''Chad Allan and the Expressions'' after signing with Quality Records and releasing several singles that were minor hits in Canada.
