'' Break Free'' () is a Malaysian television drama series. It stars Tay Ping Hui, Terence Cao, Zhang Zhen Huan, Andie Chen, Yvonne Lim and Kate Pang as the main characters in the story. The story revolves around four men from different backgrounds who were convicted to jail and their aftermaths when they were released. It was broadcast on MediaCorp Channel 8 in Singapore from 18 March 2013 to 26 April 2013, and on ntv7 in Malaysia from 27 March 2013 to 16 May 2013. ''Break Free'' () is a television series and the eighth Malaysian production by MediaCorp Studios Malaysia. The series is about four men (Tay Ping Hui, Terence Cao, Zhang Zhen Huan, Andie Chen) from different backgrounds who were convicted to jail and their aftermaths when they were released. Filming began in July 2012 and took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The drama was announced to premiere in November 2012, however, it was delayed to March 2013 instead. It made its debut in Singapore on 18 March 2013. It airs on Malaysia on 27 March 2013. It broadcasts on Sunday at 12pm. Synopsis Four men leave prison, each facing an uncertain future. Tay Ping Hui
Tay Ping Hui (born 10 November 1970) is a Singaporean actor and director. In 2014, Tay made his directorial debut with the basketball film ''Meeting the Giant''. Early life Tay attended Catholic High School (Primary and Secondary) and Catholic Junior College. He was conferred a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Economics and Political Science from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the National University of Singapore. Career After he graduated from university, Tay was the General Manager of an American food and beverage franchise and was planning to pursue a MBA at Harvard University before he was scouted to join TCS (later MediaCorp). Terence Cao
Terence Cao Guohui (born 6 October 1967) is a Singaporean television actor. Biography Cao studied at Anglo-Chinese School for both his primary and secondary education. Cao used to be a flight attendant and joined Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (later MediaCorp) in 1989 after completing the 9th drama training course. Apart from acting in several Channel 8 television drama series, Cao has also performed the theme songs for some of the series he starred in and has also acted in some television films. In 2011, he clinched the ''Best Supporting Actor'' in the Star Awards 2011. Cao has gotten 7 out of 10 Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes from 1994, 1998–2001, 2004–2005 respectively. Zhang Zhen Huan
Zhang Zhen Xuan (; born 2 February 1984) is a Chinese actor, formerly based in Singapore and was named as one of the 8 Dukes of Caldecott Hill. He was prominently a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 2008 to 2018. He changed his name to Zhang Zhenxuan, saying that his past name was complicated. Early life Zhang was born in Sichuan, China and moved to Singapore as a teenager. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in civil engineering. Andie Chen
Andie Chen () is a Singaporean actor, host and vlogger. He was prominently a full-time Mediacorp artist from 2007 to 2017 but continues to film on an ad hoc basis. Yvonne Lim (, born 28 September 1976) is a Singaporean actress. Early life and education Lim was born to Hokkien-speaking family. She studied at CHIJ St Theresa's Convent and graduated with a Diploma in Electronic, Computer & Communication Engineering (DECC) at Singapore Polytechnic in 1996. In an interview with SP's alumni magazine, she stated that she was a "shy girl" who rarely took part in extracurricular activities. At the recommendation of some friends, she took part in the Miss Singapore Polytechnic beauty pageant and finished first runner-up. Kate Pang
Kate Pang (, born 11 March 1983) is a Singaporean and Taiwanese former actress and television host. She was a full-time Mediacorp artist till 31 October 2017 but continues to film on an ad hoc basis. Acting career Pang was a model in Taiwan before going into acting. She impressed during her audition and was given a contract with MediaCorp. Channel 8 ( zh, 8頻道) is a Singaporean free-to-air television channel, airing in Mandarin Chinese. It was created by Television Singapura on 31 August 1963 with experimental broadcasts, before going official on 23 November that year. The channel's logo is a yellow number 8 on top of a red disc. History Channel 8 began its test transmissions on Saturday, 31 August 1963, Malaysia's national day.
