In the Philippines, provinces ( fil, lalawigan) are one of its primary political and administrative divisions. There are 82 provinces at present, which are further subdivided into component cities and municipalities. The local government units in the National Capital Region, as well as independent cities, are independent of any provincial government. Each province is governed by an elected legislature called the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and an elected governor. The provinces are grouped into seventeen regions based on geographical, cultural, and ethnological characteristics. Ambaguio, officially the Municipality of Ambaguio ( ilo, Ili ti Ambaguio; tl, Bayan ng Ambaguio), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 15,472 people. Etymology The name "ambaguio" was from the word "bagiw," meaning "moss" which covered every inch of trees and stones in the area. The inhabitants were called "e-am-bagiw" meaning "conqueror of moss." The name underwent a series of changes due to its difficult pronunciation by the lowland people who later settled in the area, resulting in the present "Ambaguio." Villaverde, officially the Municipality of Villaverde ( ilo, Ili ti Aritao; tl, Bayan ng Aritao), also spelled as Villa Verde, is a 5th class municipality in the province of Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 20,118 people. Etymology The town got its name in honor of the Spanish Missionary, father Juan Villaverde. History Villaverde was formerly a barrio of Solano, Nueva Vizcaya called Ibung, founded by a Dominican Friar named Alejandro Vidal in 1767. More than a century later, an order from the Spanish Government was issued to Father Juan Villaverde giving instruction to organize into a town. Bayombong, officially the Municipality of Bayombong ( gad, Ili na Bayombong; ilo, Ili ti Bayombong; tl, Bayan ng Bayombong), is a 1st class municipality and capital of the province of Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines.
