This is a list of current and former programmes broadcast on BBC Radio 4. When it came into existence – on 30 September 1967 – Radio 4 inherited a great many continuing programme series which had been initiated prior to that date by its predecessor, the BBC Home Service (1939–1967), and in some cases even by stations which had preceded the Home Service. Such inherited programmes are included in the list. The years indicated in brackets after programme titles refer to the dates, where known, of each programme's first, subsequent, and final broadcasts – and, in cases where Radio 4 programmes began their run on stations other than the Home Service, the names of those originating stations are also shown. Note that many of Radio 4's past comedy and drama productions have been, and continue to be repeatedly rerun on Radio 4, as well as on the digital radio channel BBC Radio 4 Extra (previously BBC Radio 7). BBC Radio 4
BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC that replaced the BBC Home Service in 1967. It broadcasts a wide variety of Talk radio, spoken-word programmes, including news, drama, comedy, science and history from the BBC's headquarters at Broadcasting House, London. The station controller is Mohit Bakaya. Broadcasting throughout the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands on FM broadcast band, FM, Longwave, LW and Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB, and on BBC Sounds, it can be received in the eastern counties of Republic of Ireland, Ireland, northern France and Northern Europe. ''File on 4'' is a current-affairs radio programme produced by BBC News and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. The World Tonight
''The World Tonight'' is a British current affairs radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio 4, every weekday evening, which started out as an extension of the 10 pm news. It is produced by BBC News and features news, analysis and comment on domestic and world issues. Ritula Shah is currently the main presenter, usually presenting the first three days of the week. The programme utilises other BBC broadcasters including David Eades, Carolyn Quinn, James Coomarasamy, Roger Hearing, Samira Ahmed and Felicity Evans to regularly present on Thursdays, Fridays and in Shah's absence. The World This Weekend
''The World at One'', or ''WATO'' ("what-oh") for short, is BBC Radio 4's long-running lunchtime news and current affairs programme, produced by BBC News, which is currently broadcast from 13:00 to 13:45 from Monday to Friday. The programme describes itself as "Britain's leading political programme. With a reputation for rigorous and original investigation, it is required listening in Westminster". ''The Westminster Hour'' is a British political news review produced by BBC News, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 each Sunday evening between 22:00 and 23:00 (starting with a national and international news bulletin). The programme began to be broadcast in April 1998. ''Today'', colloquially known as ''the Today programme'', is a long-running British morning news and current-affairs radio programme on BBC Radio 4. Broadcast on Monday to Saturday from 6:00 am to 9:00 am, it is produced by BBC News and is the highest-rated programme on Radio 4 and one of the BBC's most popular programmes across its radio networks. Sport On Four
''Sport on Four'' was a long-running BBC radio sports programme aired on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday mornings between 30 April 1977 and 4 April 1998. Its original presenter was former Welsh cricketer Tony Lewis. In the early years the programme ran from 0810 until 0845, but was moved to the 0905-0930 slot at the start of 1987. In 1986 a series of guest presenters led ''Sport on 4'', including Chris Rea, Harry Carpenter, David Coleman, Ian Wooldridge, Chris Brasher, Ron Pickering, Barry Davies, Des Lynam and others. Eventually, Cliff Morgan - who had just retired as a senior BBC TV Executive - took over the presenter's role in the spring of 1987 and remained at the helm until the programme came to an end with schedule changes in April 1998. ''PM'', sometimes referred to as the ''PM programme'' to avoid ambiguity, is BBC Radio 4's long-running early evening news and current affairs programme. It is currently presented by Evan Davis and Carolyn Quinn and produced by BBC News. Broadcast times ''PM'' is broadcast from 5pm to 6pm from Monday to Friday and from 5pm to 5:30pm on Saturdays. On weekdays it is followed by another news programme, the ''Six O'Clock News''. More Or Less (radio Programme)
''More or Less'' is an investigative BBC Radio 4 programme about the accuracy of numbers and statistics in the public domain. The programme often addresses statistical issues which pertain to topics in the news. The programme was created in 2001 by Michael Blastland as a one-off series of six programmes presented by Andrew Dilnot. The positive response to the show led to its becoming a regular programme, first with two series a year and since the winter series of 2008–2009, with three. As well as the 30-minute Radio 4 programme, there is also a nine-minute BBC World Service edition that runs throughout the year. Both versions appear in the programme's podcast stream. The World Service edition either repeats an item from Radio 4 or has original material (usually when the Radio 4 show is off air). ''Money Box'' is a weekly personal finance radio programme on BBC Radio 4, produced by BBC News, currently presented by Paul Lewis. The programme is broadcast live each Saturday in the half-hour slot just after midday. It is repeated on Sunday evenings just after 9.00pm. ''Money Box'' began in October 1977 with Louise Botting as presenter, which she continued until 1992, after which Alison Mitchell presented until September 2000. The current presenter is Paul Lewis. ''Letter from America'' was a weekly fifteen-minute speech radio series broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and its predecessor, the Home Service, and around the world through the BBC World Service. From its first edition to its last, it was presented by Alistair Cooke, who would speak of a topical issue in the US, tying together different strands of observation and anecdote and often ending on a humorous or poignant note.
