This list includes the appointment date and performance record of current Australian Football League senior coaches. The league consists of 18 clubs across Australia, with at least two clubs in every state/territory apart from Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. Damien Hardwick, the senior coach of the Richmond Football Club since August 2009, is currently the longest-serving coach in the league. He has also won the most premierships (3) among active coaches. Chris Scott, the senior coach of the Geelong Football Club since October 2010, has won the most matches (179) and has the best winning percentage at 70.28%. Damien Hardwick
Damien Patrick Hardwick (born 18 August 1972) is an Australian rules football coach and former player. He is the senior coach of the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) since 2010, and has the longest continuous service of any current AFL coach. His playing career as a defender comprised 153 games for Essendon (1994–2001) and 54 games for Port Adelaide (2002–2004). He won premierships with each club, in 2000 and 2004 respectively. Hardwick was appointed head coach of Richmond at the end of the 2009 season, in which the club had placed second-last. Richmond returned to the finals in 2013, Hardwick's fourth season in charge, and in 2017 defeated Adelaide in the grand final to claim their first premiership since 1980. 2020 AFL Grand Final
The 2020 AFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football match contested between and at the Gabba in Brisbane, Queensland, on Saturday 24 October 2020. It was the 125th annual Grand Final of the Australian Football League (formerly the Victorian Football League), staged to determine the premiers for the 2020 AFL season. The match was originally scheduled for the last Saturday of September but was delayed several weeks due to the suspension of the season stemming from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first AFL grand final to be staged outside the state of Victoria, and the first to be held at night. 2010 AFL Finals Series
The Australian Football League's 2010 AFL finals series, finals series determined the top eight final positions of the 2010 AFL season. The series was scheduled to occur over four weekends in September 2010, culminating with the 2010 AFL Grand Final, 114th AFL/VFL Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 25 September 2010. 2016 AFL Season
The 2016 AFL season was the 120th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured eighteen clubs, ran from 24 March until 1 October, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Thirty-four players, seventeen of whom were still active in the league, missed the season through suspension by the World Anti-Doping Agency, for doping infringements which occurred at the Essendon Football Club as part of its 2012 sports supplements program. Paul Roos (Australian Rules Footballer)
Paul Roos (born 27 June 1963) is a former Australian rules football coach who coached the Sydney Swans and Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). As a player, he represented and during the 1980s and 1990s. A versatile key position player, Roos was a strong mark who was excellent at ground level, and in his prime was rated the best footballer in Australia. He was one of the Fitzroy Lions' finest players in its final years, and was named at centre half back in Fitzroy's Team of the Century. In his 17 seasons of League football, he was only reported once, for abusive language, and was found not guilty. Roos was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2005. He has won many accolades throughout his career: he was named All-Australian seven times; received the league's most valuable player (MVP) award; and represented Victoria on 14 occasions in State of Origin. In association footballing terms, a caretaker manager or interim manager is somebody who takes temporary charge of the management of a football team, usually when the regular Manager (association football), manager is dismissed or leaves for a different club. In sports, a winning percentage is the fraction of games or matches a team or individual has won. The statistic is commonly used in standings or rankings to compare teams or individuals. It is defined as wins divided by the total number of matches played (i.e. wins plus draws plus losses). Simon Goodwin
Simon Goodwin (born 26 December 1976) is an Australian rules football coach and former player. He has been the senior coach of the Melbourne Football Club of the Australian Football League (AFL) since 2017. As a player, Goodwin tallied 275 AFL games, all as a midfielder for the Adelaide Football Club between 1996 and 2010. He won two premierships with the Crows in 1997 and 1998, was a five-time All-Australian, and captained Adelaide for his final three seasons. As coach of Melbourne, Goodwin led the Demons back into the finals in 2018, and in 2021 coached Melbourne to its first premiership victory in 57 years. Goodwin was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame as a player in 2017.
