Central Park (San Mateo)
Central Park is the first public park in San Mateo, California, a urban park bounded by El Camino Real (to the southwest), 5th Avenue (to the northwest), Laurel Avenue (to the northeast) and 9th Avenue (to the southeast). It was established via a 1922 bond measure of to purchase the land originally owned by Charles B. Polhemus, and currently hosts a baseball field, tennis courts, sculptures, playground, Japanese tea garden, recreation center, miniature train, rose garden and the San Mateo Arboretum. Features Recreation center Central Park's recreation center is leased by Self-Help for the Elderly (SHE), offering activities for approximately 1,000 senior citizens between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. The Pacific Art League (PAL), formally known as the Palo Alto Art Club was founded in 1921 in Palo Alto, California and is a membership-run nonprofit arts organization, school, and gallery. The group is located in a historic building at 668 Ramona Street in downtown Palo Alto. About The Pacific Art League employs roughly 35-40 instructors and as of 2017, has over 2,000 students enrolled per quarter. Santa Clara University is a private Jesuit university in Santa Clara, California. Established in 1851, Santa Clara University is the oldest operating institution of higher learning in California. De Saisset Museum
The de Saisset Museum at Santa Clara University opened in 1955, after Isabel de Saisset, the last member of a California pioneer family bequeathed her estate to the University of Santa Clara. The museum owns nearly 10,000 art pieces and historical artifacts, including the work of early Californian artist and university alumnus Ernest de Saisset and a considerable collection of California mission artifacts. The de Saisset recently completed a major renovation of its storage facilities and is open to the public free of charge. About the museum The building is located in front of Mission Santa Clara de Asís and has been a part of the University campus since 1955. Allied Arts Guild
Allied Arts Guild was founded in 1928 and is a complex of artist studios, shops, restaurant, and gardens in Menlo Park, California and is used as a venue for both public and private events. It is run by the Allied Arts Guild Auxiliary to provide funds for uncompensated care and special projects at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. History In 1928, wealthy art lovers Delight and Garfield D. Merner of Hillsborough bought of land at the edge of Menlo Park to create a center for craft production, having been inspired by craft guilds they had seen in Europe. They worked closely with architect Gardner Dailey and artist Pedro Joseph de Lemos to design a Spanish Colonial Revival-style complex, re-using some of the old farm buildings on the property.
