Mehdi Zana
Mehdi Zana (born 20 December 1940 in Silvan) is an author and former Kurdish politician from Turkey. At: "KORT BIOGRAFI ÖVER FÖRFATTAREN OCH POLITIKERN MEHDI ZANA" He is prominent Kurdish political activist a former Mayor of Diyarbakır. Following the coup de état in 1980 he was imprisoned for more than ten years. Early life and education Zana went to the local elementary school and did not finish high school to begin to work as a tailor in Silvan. The workshop he worked in was owned by a prominent Kurdist intellectual of the time, Niyazi Tatlıcı. The tailor workshop has been described as a sort of a "university" by political activists of the time. In the Eastern Meetings (''Doğu mitingleri)'' he attempted to organize a Kurdish theater tour through four villages in Diyarbakir but didn't succeed. Sur, Diyarbakır
Sur is one of the central districts of Diyarbakır Province in Turkey. It is a historic place situated inside the Diyarbakır Fortress. The district takes its name from the castle walls ( tr, sur). Background Sur district was founded in Diyarbakır Province in 2008 as the central historic settlement. It is situated at the Tigris bank, on the felsic lava of the shield volcano Karaca Dağ at an elevation of above mean sea level. Many historic buildings and structures in the district are witness of several civilizations and rich cultures, which were hosted in the location in the history. Edremit, Van
Edremit ( ku, Artemêt; hy, Արտամետ, Artamet), is a district in the Van Province of Turkey. The district's central town which has the same name is situated on the coast of Lake Van at a distance of from the city of Van. Government Gülcan Kaçmaz Sayyiğit from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) was elected mayor at the local elections in March 2019. Kızıltepe
Kızıltepe ( ku, Qoser, ota, Tell-Ermen, lit=Armenian hill ) is a town and district in Mardin Province of Turkey. As of 2021, the district had a population of 263,938, making it the most populous district in the province. Government In the local elections of March 2019 Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz was elected as Mayor. Viranşehir ( ku, Wêranşar) is a market town serving a cotton-growing area of Şanlıurfa Province, in southeastern Turkey, 93 km east of the city Şanlıurfa and 53 km north-west of Ceylanpınar at the Syrian border. Batman, Turkey
Batman ( ku, Êlih) is a Kurdish-majority city in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey and the capital of Batman Province. It lies on a plateau, above sea level, near the confluence of the Batman River and the Tigris. The Batı Raman oil field, which is the largest oil field in Turkey, is located just outside the city. Batman has a local airport and a military airbase, which was used for transit of aircraft and helicopters in some search and rescue operations during the Gulf War. Nejdet Atalay (born 1978) is a former politician of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) and Mayor of Batman. He has been a supporter of Kurdish cultural and language rights and made the first legal defense in the Kurdish language in a Turkish court in 2013.
