Sparky Woods
Phillip Perry "Sparky" Woods (born December 20, 1953) is an American football coach. He is a senior adviser for football team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Woods served as the head football coach at Appalachian State University from 1984 to 1988, the University of South Carolina from 1989 to 1993, and the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), from 2008 to 2014. Playing career Woods attended Oneida High School, where he is in its Hall of Fame. He holds the record for the most interceptions in a season. The South Carolina Gamecocks football program represents the University of South Carolina. The East Carolina Pirates are a college football team that represents East Carolina University (variously "East Carolina" or "ECU"). Wofford Terriers
Wofford College sponsors 18 sports for men's and women's programs, competing as the Terriers. The Terriers compete in the Southern Conference, and have been a part of the league since the 1997–98 academic year. Wofford and the other SoCon members play football in the Football Championship Subdivision. James Andrew Brakefield (October 23, 1918 – October 14, 2002) was an American football and baseball coach. He served as the head football coach at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina from 1967 to 1970 and at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina from 1971 to 1979, compiling a career college football record of 75–64–4. The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. Kidd Brewer
Pierce Oliver "Kidd" Brewer (May 5, 1908 – November 22, 1991) was an American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach and athletic director at Appalachian State Teachers College—now known as Appalachian State University—from 1935 to 1938. Brewer's 1937 football squad went unbeaten and unscored upon during the regular season, outscoring their opponents 206–0. Brewer was an All-American at Duke University before coaching at Appalachian. Kidd Brewer Stadium, Appalachian State's home football venue, was named in his honor on September 3, 1988.
