2008 Curtis Cup
The 35th Curtis Cup Match was played from 30 May to 1 June 2008 on the Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland. The United States won 13 to 7. This was the first Curtis Cup played over three days, including fourball matches for the first time. Stacy Lewis won all her five matches. Format The contest was a three-day competition, with three foursomes and three fourball matches on each of the first two days, and eight singles matches on the final day, a total of 20 points. Each of the 20 matches is worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole extra holes are not played. Rather, each side earns a point toward their team total. The team that accumulates at least 10 points wins the competition. In the event of a tie, the current holder retains the Cup. This was the last two-day Curtis Cup, which expanded to three days in 2008. Each of the 18 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole extra holes were not played. Amanda Blumenherst
Amanda Blumenherst (born November 4, 1986) is an American professional golfer who plays on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour. She was a three-time National Player of the Year at Duke University and won the U.S. Women's Amateur title in 2008. In 2013, she announced that she would take a leave from professional golf to spend more time with her husband, major league baseball player Nate Freiman. Early life and personal life Blumenherst was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, the daughter of Amy (McClure) and David Blumenherst. She began playing golf at the age of four. She attended high school at Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix, where she was a four-time Rolex All-American and was the third-ranked national recruit as a senior. Erica Blasberg
Erica Paige Blasberg (July 14, 1984 – May 9, 2010) was an American professional golfer who played on the LPGA Tour. She attended the University of Arizona, and was the country's number 1 ranked college player as a freshman. She won the 2004 Laconia Savings Bank Golf Classic. Early life Blasberg was born in Orange, California, to Debra (who worked for Avis) and Mel Blasberg (who at the time worked in the automobile business, and then as a golf coach). She was Jewish. She was raised in Corona, California, 40 miles east of Los Angeles. Her father had been raised on Long Island, New York, and attended Plainview High School, where he played for the golf team. She attended Coronita Elementary. She then went to Corona High School, where she had a 4.0 GPA, starred on the boys' golf team, and was the Mountain View League individual champion and MVP, graduating in 2002. The 3rd Curtis Cup Match was played on 6 May 1936 on the King's Course at Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland. The match ended in a tie at 4 each and the United States, as the holders, retained the trophy. The final match to finish was between Jessie Anderson and Leona Cheney. Patty Berg
Patricia Jane Berg (February 13, 1918 – September 10, 2006) was an American professional golfer. She was a founding member and the first president of the LPGA. Her 15 major title wins remains the all-time record for most major wins by a female golfer. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. In winter times she was also a speed skater. Amateur career Berg was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and expressed an interest in football at an early age. At one point, she played quarterback on a local team that included future Oklahoma Sooners head football coach Bud Wilkinson. At the age of 13, Berg took up golf in 1931 at the suggestion of her parents; by 1934, she began her amateur career and won the Minneapolis City Championship.
