True Crime
True crime is a nonfiction literary, podcast, and film genre in which the author examines an actual crime and details the actions of real people associated with and affected by criminal events. The crimes most commonly include murder; about 40 percent focus on tales of serial killers. True crime comes in many forms, such as books, films, podcasts, and television shows. Austin Serial Bombings
The Austin serial bombings occurred between March 2 and March 21, 2018, mostly in Austin, Texas. In total, five Letter bomb, package bombs exploded, murdering two people and injuring another five. The perpetrator, 23-year-old Mark Anthony Conditt of Pflugerville, Texas, was pulled over by police on March 21. Conditt detonated an explosive inside his vehicle, killing himself and injuring a police officer. Bombings On March 2, 2018, 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House was murdered by picking up an apparent package bomb at his home. Austin Police Department Assistant Chief Joseph Chacon floated a theory that House might have bombed himself, perhaps while assembling the device. Chacon also told residents not to worry. Early life and education Judge was born to parents Valentine and Tony Judge, and named after her aunt, Phoebe Legere. She grew up in Chicago with her three siblings, and attended university at Bennington College, graduating in 2005. She eventually started interning at a public radio station in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, which led her to enroll at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. Marc Smerling is an American film producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, and director. He was nominated for an Oscar for '' Capturing the Friedmans'' in 2003, and co-wrote and produced '' The Jinx'', a six-part HBO documentary on suspected murderer Robert Durst. He directed the FX docuseries ''A Wilderness of Error'' based on the book of the same name. Education Smerling attended S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and has earned a Master of Arts degree in film production from University of Southern California. ''Crimetown'' is a serial documentary podcast hosted by Marc Smerling and Zac Stuart-Pontier and produced by Gimlet Media which looks at how organized crime has shaped particular American cities. The first season started in 2016 and focused on the city of Providence, Rhode Island. Background and production Hosts Marc Smerling and Zac Stuart-Pontier first worked together on the film ''Catfish'', and later collaborated on HBO's '' The Jinx''.
