Arye Mekel ( he, אריה מקל) was an Israeli diplomat and journalist who died on June 19, 2021, at the age of 75. Biography Arye Mekel was born to Holocaust survivors and raised in Israel. He studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, receiving a bachelor's degrees in Political Science and English Language and Literature, and a master's degree in Mass Communication. He also studied at Columbia University in New York, where he received a master's degree in Sociology. Mekel was married to Ruth Mekel, a journalist and public relations consultant. Ali Yahya
Ali Yahya ( ar, علی یحیی, he, עלי יחיא; – 11 September 2014) was an Israeli Arab diplomat. He became the first Israeli ambassador of Arab descent in 1995 when he was appointed Ambassador to Finland, a post in which he served until 1999. Yahya served as Israeli Ambassador to Greece from 2006 to 2014. Biography Yahya was born in 1947 and raised in Kafr Qara, Mandatory Palestine. He completed his BA degree in history and Arabic literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1970. Yahya lived with his wife and five children. Yahya was Israel's first Arab ambassador, first to Finland, later to Greece.
