The Ambassador of Ireland to the Czech Republic is the head of the Embassy of Ireland, Prague, and the official representative of the Government of Ireland to the Government of the Czech Republic. The incumbent Ambassador is Cliona Manahan who was appointed in September 2019. Diplomatic relations between Ireland and the Czech Republic Ireland and Czechoslovakia initially had contacts had contacts through the League of Nations. A Czechoslovakian Consulate was established in Dublin in 1929 and was upgraded to a Legation in 1947. Communism’s arrival in 1948 interrupted the development of diplomatic relations until 1965 when a Czechoslovak Trade Mission was established in Dublin. This was upgraded to an Embassy in 1995. The Irish Trade Office opened in Prague in 1991 and the Irish Embassy in Vienna was responsible for diplomatic relations until 1995 when an Embassy was established in Prague. Cliona Manahan has been the Irish Ambassador to the Czech Republic and the Ukraine since September 2019. From 2014 until 2019, she was Ambassador of Ireland to Denmark and Iceland and was Consul General of Ireland to Scotland. Manahan graduated from Trinity College Dublin, earning a BA in Legal Science. Alison Kelly (born 1953) is a former Irish diplomat. Early life and education Kelly was born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. In 1973 she graduated from University College, Dublin with a Bachelor of Social Science degree and in 1974 she graduated from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium with a Certificate in Advanced European Studies. Career Kelly started her career in Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs in 1974. Early in her career she was stationed at The Hague (1976–79), Cairo (1983–86), CSCE/OSCE in Vienna as well as assignments in other locations.
