This is a list of airports in Bangladesh, grouped by type and sorted by location. All airports are operated and maintained by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. Few of the airfield used for military and training purposes by the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh has 5 domestic airports, 3 international airports (which are also used for domestic flights) and 4 STOL (Short Take-off and Landing) ports, with one new domestic airport under construction. Barisal Airport
Barishal Airport is a domestic airport located in the southern city of Barisal in Bangladesh. GMG Airlines, Royal Bengal Airlines and United Airways previously operated flights to Dhaka from this airport. In April 2015, the national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines resumed weekly flights after nine years. Location The airport is located close to Barisal city in Rahamatpur area of Babuganj Upazila. History Before it was re-constructed, there was a huge demand for an airport in the region, for quicker travel to capital Dhaka. Local organisations held many strikes and demonstrations for its construction. The airport was finally built in 1985 on 163 acres of land, at cost of BDT 4 million. Chakaria Upazila
Chakaria ( bn, চকরিয়া) is an upazila of Cox's Bazar District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Geography Chakoria is located at . It has 63671 households and a total area of 643.46 km2. Once there was a mangrove forest named Chakaria Sunderban here. But now it is no more. Demographics According to the 1991 Bangladesh census, Chakaria had a population of 409, 346. Dohazari Airfield
Dohazari Airfield is a former wartime United States Army Air Forces airfield near Dohazari in Bangladesh used during the Burma Campaign 1944-1945. It is now abandoned. History Dohazari was used by the USAAF Tenth Air Force 1st Combat Cargo Group as a supply point for aerial resupply drops over Burma between 30 January and 15 May 1945. Dohazari
Dohazari is a municipal area in southeast Bangladesh. It is in Dohazari municipality of Chandanaish Upazila, Chittagong District. History The Mughal Subahdar Shaista Khan expelled the Arakanese from Chittagong in 1666 and established Mughal rule. After the Arakanese expulsion, Islamabad as the area came to be known, made great strides in economic progress. In 1666, ''Buzurg Umed Khan'' the son of the Subahdar Shaistha Khan led the invasion of the Mughal army as chief of the campaign to expel the Arakanese.In this invasion against the Arakanese, there were thirteen Mughal army commanders, consists of both Mansabdars and Army Generals. Cox's Bazar Airport
Cox's Bazar International Airport is an under-construction international airport in the resort town of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. The airport services both local residents of Cox's Bazar as well as tourists to the region. In November 2020, Biman Bangladesh Airlines started flight between Sylhet to Cox's Bazar, which was in a first, a direct flight between two cities without any connecting flight from Dhaka. Expansion and development Since 2012 plans to upgrade and expand the airport to allow international arrivals have been underway. Once completed, it would be the fourth international airport in Bangladesh. Cox's Bazar (; bn, কক্সবাজার, Kôksbajar; ) is a city, fishing port, tourism centre, and district headquarters in Southeastern Bangladesh. It is located south of the city of Chittagong. Cox's Bazar is also known by the name ''Panowa,'' which translates literally as "yellow flower". Another old name was "Palongkee". Comilla (; bn, কুমিল্লা, Kumillā, ), officially spelled Cumilla, is the fifth largest city of Bangladesh and second largest in Chittagong division.
