FAdeA IA 100
The FAdeA IA-100 Malvina is an Argentine trainer aircraft developed by the Fábrica Argentina de Aviones from December 2014. It was first flown in 2016. Design and development The IA-100 was developed as a result of a project to demonstrate FAdeA's current design and production capabilities, as a basis for a future indigenous training aircraft. The outcome was a technology demonstrator that incorporated processes and materials common in many industries but still new to FAdeA, such as composite materials. In August 2020, the Argentinian Ministry of Defence named the aircraft "Malvina", after Argentina's name for the Falkland Islands The Falkland Islands (; es, Islas Malvinas, link=no ) is an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean on the Patagonian Shelf. The principal islands are about east of South America's southern Patagonian coast and about from Cape Dubouze .... FMA SAIA 90
The FMA SAIA 90 was a cancelled air superiority fighter aircraft project, designed by the FMA ( Fábrica Militar de Aviones) with the collaboration of Dornier in the mid-1980s. The SAIA 90 was the last stage of the ACA (Avión Caza Argentino) project, which was started by the National Reorganization Process to develop an Argentine fighter aircraft. History By 1980 the Fabrica Militar de Aviones and Dornier had an ongoing relationship as a result of the combined development of the IA 63, and both were considered a cooperative agreement for the production of future airplanes. This agreement called to both parties to establish a common office in the city of Córdoba, Argentina within the year for the production, marketing and associated support services of their products. The development of a trainer was the first of three steps in Fábrica Argentina de Aviones' strategy, elaborated after the development of the IA 58 Pucará by the mid-1960s. The steps of this strategy incl ...

FMA IA 63 Pampa
The IA-63 Pampa is an advanced jet trainer with combat capability, produced in Argentina by Fabrica Militar de Aviones (FMA) with assistance from Dornier of Germany. Design and development Preliminary design studies for a replacement for the Morane-Saulnier MS-760 of the Argentine Air Force started at the Fábrica Militar de Aviones (FMA) in 1978, with these studies resulting in selection of a proposal powered by a single Garrett TFE731 turbofan with high, unswept wings. At the same time the FMA signed a partnership agreement with Dornier to develop the new aircraft.Flores 1987, pp. 59–60. Although influenced by the Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet design, the Pampa differs in being a smaller aircraft, it is also single-engined and has straight supercritical wings rather than the swept ones of the Alpha Jet. It is constructed mainly of aluminium alloy, with carbon-fibre used for components such as the air intakes. The crew of two sit in tandem under a single-piece clamshell cano ...

FMA IA 58 Pucará
The FMA IA 58 Pucará ( qu, Fortress) is an Argentine ground-attack and counter-insurgency (COIN) aircraft manufactured by the Fábrica Militar de Aviones. It is a low-wing twin-turboprop all-metal monoplane with retractable landing gear, capable of operating from unprepared strips when operationally required. The type saw action during the Falklands War and the Sri Lankan Civil War. Development In August 1966 the Argentine state aircraft factory, Dirección Nacional de Fabricación e Investigación Aeronáutica (DINFIA), began development of the AX-2, a Counter-insurgency (COIN) aircraft to meet a requirement of the Argentine Air Force. The project was promoted by engineer Ricardo Olmedo and became under the guidance of engineer Aníbal Dreidemie, who also designed the IA-52 Guaraní II and the IA-63 Pampa. The chosen layout was a low-wing monoplane powered by two turboprop engines mounted in wing-mounted nacelles and fitted with a T-tail. In order to test the proposed l ...

FMA IAe 45 Quarandi
The DINFIA IA 45 Querandi was a 1950s Argentine twin-engined light transport aircraft built by the DINFIA. Development The IA 45 Querandi was designed as a twin engined light transport suitable for both private and as an air taxi. Work began on the new project in 1954, with work being suspended in 1955 and restarted in 1956. A twin-engined all metal high-wing cantilever monoplane with an upswept rear fuselage, it had a tailplane with two fins and rudders and retractable tricycle landing gear. It was powered by two pusher configuration piston engines. The first prototype, powered by Lycoming O-320 engines, and seating five, first flew on 23 September 1957. It proved underpowered and was followed by a second prototype, powered by Lycoming O-360 engines, and accommodating six seats, which first flew on 15 November 1960. There was little interest in the IA 45 from Argentina's air taxi operators, who preferred imported American aircraft like the Piper Apache and the Aero Comman ...

FMA IAe 38
__NOTOC__ The DINFIA IA 38 was a 1960s Argentine four-engine experimental tailless transport aircraft, designed under the direction of Reimar Horten and based on the German Horten Ho VIII project and built by the DINFIA. Development The IA 38 was an experimental cargo aircraft based on research by Reimar Horten. The design was developed to meet a 1950 requirement for an aircraft to carry citrus fruits (and in particular, oranges) from the west of Argentina to Buenos Aires, there being no rail links while the roads were inadequate for heavy trucks.Green & Swanborough 1989, pp. 17–18Magnusson 2009, p. 128 It was an all-metal tailless shoulder-wing swept monoplane, with the vertical control surfaces located near the tips of the wings. The short, stubby fuselage was fitted with a tricycle landing gear, with a retractable nosewheel and fixed mainwheels.Green & Swanborough 1989, p18Magnusson 2009, pp. 128–129 Power was provided by four radial engines mounted within the wings, ...

FMA IAe 35 Huanquero
__NOTOC__ The DINFIA IA 35 Huanquero was a 1950s Argentine twin-engined general-purpose monoplane aircraft built by the DINFIA. Development The IA 35 Huanquero was the first aircraft design from the DINFIA organisation (Argentina) to enter production. A twin-engined all-metal (except for fabric-covered ailerons) low-wing cantilever monoplane, it had a high-mounted tailplane with two fins and rudders and retractable tricycle landing gear. It was powered by two I.Ae. 19R El Indio radial engines. The design team was led by professor Kurt Tank, former Focke-Wulf designer who also designed the Pulqui II jet fighter based on the Focke-Wulf Ta 183 of the World War II era. The prototype first flew on 21 September 1953 and was followed by a planned production batch of 100 aircraft.Taylor 1961, p. 5. The first production aircraft flew on 29 March 1957 but less than half of the aircraft were built when production ceased in the mid-1960s. Variants ;IA 35 Type 1A :Advanced instru ...

FMA IAe 33 Pulqui II
The FMA IAe 33 Pulqui II (in the indigenous language Mapuche, ''Pulqúi'': Arrow)Crowder-Taraborrelli, Tomas F"Evita in Wonderland: Pulqui and the Workshop of Underdevelopment."''CineAction'', 22 June 2009. Retrieved: 26 April 2010. was a jet fighter aircraft designed by Kurt Tank in the late 1940s in Argentina, under the Perón government, and built by the Fábrica Militar de Aviones (FMA).Green and Pollinger 1955, p. 105. Embodying many of the design elements of the wartime Focke-Wulf Ta 183, an unrealized fighter project, the FMA envisioned the IAe 33 Pulqui II as a successor to the postwar Gloster Meteor F4 in service with the ''Fuerza Aérea Argentina''. The Pulqui II's development was comparatively problematic and lengthy, with two of the four prototypes being lost in fatal crashes. Despite one of the prototypes being successfully tested in combat during the 1955 ''Revolución Libertadora'', the political, economic and technical challenges faced by the project meant that ...
