HDMS Hvidbjørnen (F360)
HDMS ''Hvidbjørnen'' (''Hvidbjørnen'' is older Danish for polar bear) is a belonging to the Royal Danish Navy. Service ''Hvidbjørnen'' served as a platform for Commander Danish Task Group from 1998 to 2002, whereafter her sister ship assumed the role. During a patrol in the waters of the Faroe Islands, the French trawler ''Bruix'' was suspected of illegal fishing. When approached by ''Hvidbjørnen'' the French trawler refused to let an inspection team aboard and started to sail towards the territorial border. During the chase the two ships collided (no persons injured). ''Hvidbjørnen'' and participated with Danish air elements in sovereignty and Search and Rescue exercises off Greenland's west coast in 2009. The vessels patrol took them to the Nares Strait, close to Hans Island, the approaches to the Northwest Passage, and to Lancaster Sound. HDMS (Her Danish Majesty's Ship) ''Vædderen'' (F359) is a Thetis class ocean patrol vessels, ''Thetis''-class ocean patrol vessel of the Royal Danish Navy. She is employed to exercise Danish sovereignty in waters around the Faroe Islands and Greenland. ''Vædderen'' (Aries) was recently refitted at Karstensens Shipyard A/S in Skagen, Denmark and sailed from Amailiehaven, Copenhagen in August 2006 on the Galathea expeditions#Third expedition, Galathea 3 scientific expedition. Galathea 3 is now complete and ''Vædderen'' is back in service as an inspection ship. HDMS ''Triton'' is a frigate belonging to the Royal Danish Navy. It is being used to exercise the Danish sovereignty over the waters around Greenland and the Faroe Islands. History On 19 December 2006, the ''Triton'' participated in the rescue operation of the crew of the cargo ship '' Wilson Muuga'' after it ran aground south of Sandgerði on the Reykjanes peninsula. HDMS ''Thetis'' is a ''Thetis''-class ocean patrol vessel belonging to the Royal Danish Navy. In mid-1990s the ship served as a platform for seismic operations in the waters near Greenland. In 2002 she took over the role from her sister ship ''Hvidbjørnen'' as a platform for Commander Danish Task Group. The role was handed over to ''Absalon'' in September 2007. Thetis Class Ocean Patrol Vessel
The ''Thetis''-class ocean patrol vessels or ocean patrol frigates, also called Stanflex 3000, is a class of large patrol vessels built for the Royal Danish Navy. The class comprises four ships, all built and commissioned in the early 1990s. The ships' tasks are mainly maintenance of sovereignty, search and rescue, fishery inspection and support to local (mainly Greenlandic) authorities. The operation areas are normally Greenland and the Faroe Islands, but the vessels also operate near Iceland on transit between Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and near Denmark. Design The ships each have double-skinned ice-reinforced hulls so that the ships can break through of solid ice. Ice class refers to a notation assigned by a classification society or a national authority to denote the additional level of strengthening as well as other arrangements that enable a ship to navigate through sea ice. Some ice classes also have requirements for the ice-going performance of the vessel. Significance of ice class Not all ships are built to an ice class. Building a ship to an ice class means that the hull must be thicker, and more scantlings must be in place. Sea chests may need to be arranged differently depending on the class. Absalon Class Command Ship
The ''Absalon'' class are frigates of the Royal Danish Navy, commissioned in 2005. The two ships in the class may be described as a hybrid between a frigate and military transport ship with multiple role capabilities, with the capacity to be transformed from a combat ship with the firepower of a traditional frigate to a hospital ship within a day. The Storebro SB90E is a small craft developed by Swedish yacht designer Storebro Bruks AB. It was initially developed for the Swedish Navy, who designated it the Stridsbåt 90 E, the ''E'' being for ''Enkel'' (Swedish for ''single'') - shortened to Strb 90 E.
