Distributed by Toho, Toho Co., Ltd. and co-produced by their subsidiary Toho Studios and Robot Communications, it is the 37th film in the Godzilla (franchise), ''Godzilla'' franchise and Toho's 33rd ''Godzilla'' film. The film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki as a former ''kamikaze'' pilot who faced Godzilla during World War II and blames himself for the deaths caused by the monster when it surfaces in Tokyo. The supporting cast includes Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada (actor), Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki. The film had its world premiere at the Shinjuku Toho Building in Tokyo on October 18, 2023, and was released in Japan on November 3, with Toho International distributing it in American theaters the following month.
