Coonana, Western Australia
Coonana is a small Aboriginal community in Western Australia located east of Perth, between Kalgoorlie and Laverton in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. At the 2006 census, Coonana had a population of 83. Imintji Community
Imintji is a small Aboriginal community located 220 km from Derby in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, within the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley. Imintji community is located on the Gibb River Road. The community reserve lies within the greater ancient Devonian limestone reef of the Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges, and is located on the northern face and lower drainage flats of the smaller southern Precipice Range. Native title The community is located within the Wanjina – Wunggurr Wilinggin (WAD6016/96) native title determination area. History Imintji, meaning "the place to sit down" in the Ngarinyin language, was first proposed as a community settlement area in the 1950s. Ilkulka Community, Western Australia
Ilkurlka, sometimes spelt Ilkulka, is a location on the Anne Beadell Highway in Western Australia, comprising a roadhouse, tiny outstation and cultural centre of the Spinifex people. History The Spinifex people, a group of Aboriginal Australian peoples, occupied the Great Victoria Desert up to 25,000 years ago. After displacement to Yakatunya by British nuclear tests at Maralinga in the 1950s, and subsequent compensation paid decades afterwards, Spinifex people built water bores and airstrips at Tjuntjuntjara and Ilkurlka. By around 1989 the Spinifex people had moved from Yakatunya and resettled at Tjuntjuntjara and Ilkurlka. Following a 1995 native title claim, the Spinifex people were granted native title over 55,000 sq km (5.5 million ha) of the Great Victoria Desert in 2000. Guda Guda Community
Guda Guda is a small Aboriginal community, located on Great Northern Highway, in the Nine Mile Area of the Kimberley region township of Wyndham, Western Australia, approximately 10 kilometres south-east of the town centre. Background The majority of people residing at Guda Guda have personal histories and affiliations at Forrest River Mission ( Oombulgurri). During the wet season Guda Guda community is regularly visited by people from Oombulgurri, Halls Creek, One Arm Point and Lombadina. History Guda Guda was initially a stopover on the droving track to Wyndham meatworks and Wyndham port. Cattle were mustered from Doon Doon Station, Bow River and Gibb River. Drovers came from Maple Downs, Gurranji, Lissadel station and Home Valley station to the Wyndham meatworks, which closed in 1989. Goolarabooloo Millibinyarri Community
Goolarabooloo Millibinyarri is an Aboriginal community, located 12 km north of Broome in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, within the Shire of Broome. Goolarabooloo Millibinyarri is located north of Broome along the coast, in a locality known as Coconut Wells. Coconut Wells is a small rural living subdivision with about 30 lots. The area was originally established in the 1970s with thoughts of becoming a plantation area, however this did not eventuate due to a lack of available water. Millibinyarri was established by Paddy Roe in the mid-1970s according to his grandson, Ronald Roe. Governance The community is managed through its incorporated body, Marralgni (Granite Community) Indigenous Corporation. Djugerari Community
Djugerari (also known as ''Cherrabun'') is a small Aboriginal community located within the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley. Djugerari is 110 km by road from Fitzroy Crossing. Access is via the Great Northern Highway (54 km) and then by the unsealed Cherrabun Road. In the , Djugerari had a total population of 83, including 77 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. History Djugerari was established as a permanent Aboriginal community in the early 1980s by Walmajarri people moving from Cherrabun Pastoral Station where many of the men had previously worked as stockmen. The community became incorporated in 1983.
