David Liss
David Liss (born March 16, 1966) is an American writer of novels, essays and short fiction; more recently working also in comic books. He was born in New Jersey and grew up in South Florida. Liss received his BA degree from Syracuse University, an MA from Georgia State University and his M. Phil from Columbia University. He left his post-graduate studies of 18th Century British literature and unfinished dissertation to write full-time. "If things had not worked out with fiction, I probably would have kept to my graduate school career track and sought a job as a literature professor," he said. A full-time writer since 2010, Liss lives in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife and children. Most of Liss' novels are historical-mystery (or historical-thriller) novels. Dmitry Liss (born 1960) is a Russian Conductor (music), conductor. He is also the artistic director and chief conductor of the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra. Biography Born in 1960, Dmitry Liss is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory. Upon graduation from the conservatory in 1984 he became a conductor of the Kuzbass Autonomous Industrial Colony, Kuzbass Symphony Orchestra. In 1991 he was appointed to the position of Chief Conductor of this orchestra and at this time became the youngest chief conductor in Russia. Since 1995, Dmitry Liss has served as Artistic Director/Chief Conductor of the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra. Johann Liss
Johann Liss or Jan Lys ( or 1597 – 1629 or 1630) was a leading German Baroque painter of the 17th century, active mainly in Venice. Biography Liss was born in Oldenburg (Holstein) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. After an initial education in his home state, he continued his studies, according to Houbraken, with Hendrick Goltzius in Haarlem and Amsterdam. Around 1620 he travelled through Paris to Venice. He moved to Rome around 1620–1622, and his first works there were influenced by the style of Caravaggio. Although his earlier work was concerned with the contrasts of light and shadow, his final move to Venice in the early 1620s modified his style and gave impetus to brilliant color and a spirited treatment of the painted surface. In 1627, he painted an admired large altarpiece, the ''Inspiration of Saint Jerome'' in San Nicolò da Tolentino. His loose brushstrokes seem precursor to rococo styles of the Guardi brothers. Klaus-Dieter Liss, german: Liß, (born 10 June 1962) is a German-Australian physicist working in the field of experimental X-ray and neutron scattering and their applications. Liss research is on in-situ and real-time experiments with synchrotron and neutron radiation for the characterization of thermo-mechanical processes in metals; the investigation of phase transformations; the evolution of microstructures; and the kinetics of defects. His experimental achievements are the development of the Materials oscilloscope and the realization of the X-ray photon storage. Liss has majored in physics at the Technical University of Munich (diploma in 1990, institute E21 under Wolfgang Gläser and Anton Zeilinger) and received his doctorate at RWTH Aachen in 1995 under Tasso Springer and Dieter Richter, while he prepared his thesis on neutron and X-rays optics at the Laue-Langevin Institute in Grenoble. Lesia Batschynsky Liss (born August 11, 1966) is an American politician from the state of Michigan. In 2008, she was elected as a Democrat to the Michigan State House of Representatives. Prior to serving in the legislature, Liss was an emergency department nurse for 22 years. She was married to former Warren City Councilman Mark Liss. Liss Eriksson (31 August 1919–19 July 2000) was a Swedish sculptor. Life The son of the sculptor Christian Eriksson (1858-1935), Liss Eriksson grew up on Maria Prästgårdsgatan on Södermalm in southern-central Stockholm. Following his studies at the College of Fine Arts for Nils Sjögren and Eric Grate in 1939–1944, Liss participated in the pioneering exhibition Ung Konst in 1947, before spending five years in Paris together with his wife, the artist Britta Reich-Eriksson, to study for Jean Osouf and Henri Laurens.
