Lisa Schoeneberg
Lisa Schoeneberg (born September 29, 1957) is an American curler and Olympian. She was a successful skip in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, leading her teams to two silver medals at the World Championships and represented the United States at the Olympic Games twice. Curling career In 1987 Schoeneberg and her team of Carla Casper, Lori Mountford, and Erika Brown competed at the United States' first Olympic Curling Trials, as curling was reintroduced at the 1988 Winter Olympics as a demonstration event. They upset the top two teams from that year's national championship to win the Trials and earn their spot as the American women's team at the Olympics. At the Games they finished 5th out of 8 teams, with a 4-4 record. Also in 1988, Schoeneberg played as vice-skip for Steve Brown when they won the United States Mixed Curling Championship. Poynette, Wisconsin
Poynette is a village in Columbia County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,590 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Poynette was named after Pierre Paquette (1796–1836), an early fur trader and settler of south central Wisconsin. When an application was made for a post office in the settlement, Paquette's name was misread as Poynette, and the post office was mistakenly named "Poynette". The village was then named after the post office. The community was incorporated in 1892. Geography The Village of Poynette is located in Sections 34 and 35 of the Town of Dekorra (T 11 N, R 9 E), at (43.392, -89.401). Lori Mountford
Lori Ann Mountford (born July 31, 1959) is an American curler. Born in Portage, Wisconsin, she graduated from Poynette High School and started curling at age 20 at Madison Curling Club. Mountford is a two-time Olympian, competing the 1988 Winter Olympics when curling was first re-introduced as an exhibition sport and then again at the 1998 Winter Olympics when curling was a full event. Her team, skipped by Lisa Schoeneberg, placed 5th both times. Brandon () is the second-largest city in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Bev Behnke
Beverly Behnke is an American curler from Denver, Colorado. She was a three-time national champion in the early 1990s. Curling career In 1990 Behnke was named the United States Curling Association's Female Athlete of the Year. Behnke skipped her team to gold at three National Women's Championships in only a five year span, in 1990, 1993, and 1994. In 1992 they earned silver at Nationals, losing to Lisa Schoeneberg in the final. As national champions they earned the right to represent the United States at the subsequent World Championships. In and they finished in eighth and sixth place, respectively. In Behnke's team finished in eighth place as well, but Behnke missed the tournament due to an injury and instead Sharon O'Brien skipped the team. 1990 World Women's Curling Championship
The 1990 World Women's Curling Championship was held at the Rocklundahallen in Västerås, Sweden from April 1–7. The women's winner was team Norway, skipped by Dordi Nordby. Norway won its first Women's World Championship in Nordby's first season skipping the Norwegian women's team. She defeated Scotland in the final, 4–2, which was skipped by a 21 year-old Carolyn Hutchinson. Norway controlled the game, not letting Scotland play the "come around game". The event was held in conjunction with the 1990 World Men's Curling Championship and was televised in Canada on The Sports Network. United States Mixed Curling Championship
The United States Mixed Curling Championship is the annual national curling championship for mixed curling teams in the United States. A mixed curling team consists of two men and two women with the throwing order alternating by gender. The United States Curling Association (USCA) has held the Mixed Championship annually since 1975. Starting in 2015 the winner has gone on to represent the United States at the World Mixed Curling Championship. The 2019 Mixed Curling Championship was held March 23 to 30 at the Denver Curling Club in Golden, Colorado. Ten teams qualified for the 2019 Championship through regional play-downs. On July 17, 2020 the USCA announced that the 2020 edition of the Mixed Championship would be cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Glossary Of Curling
This is a glossary of terms in curling. #s During a game, sweepers might call out numbers. These numbers indicate how far the sweepers think the rock in play will travel. This system is relatively new to the game and is often attributed to the Randy Ferbey rink since they were the first major team to use the system, but it is not known whose idea it originally was. 1 to 3 indicates a rock in the free guard zone, 4 to 6 the rings in front of the tee line, 7 being on the button, and 8 to 10 the rings behind the tee line. Sometimes, 11 is used to indicate a stone thrown so that it passes through the house and out of play.
