Lisa Marie Smith (born December 5, 1968) is an American model and actress. Early life Lisa Marie was born in Piscataway, New Jersey, where she was raised by her father and grandparents. She studied ballet for eight years at the New Jersey Ballet and learned classical piano. She moved to New York City at age 15 to study theater, dance and music. Career She was a model for Robert Mapplethorpe and was featured in photographer Bruce Weber's ad campaign for designer Calvin Klein's Obsession perfume. Marie went on to appear briefly in '' Let's Get Lost'', Weber's documentary on the life of jazz trumpeter Chet Baker, and had a small role in Woody Allen's film '' Alice''. Piscataway () is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is a suburb of the New York metropolitan area, in the Raritan Valley. At the 2010 United States Census, the population was 56,044, an increase of 5,562 (+11.0%) from 50,482 at the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 3,393 (+7.2%) from 47,089 in 1990. The name may be derived from the area's earliest European settlers who came from near the Piscataqua River, a landmark defining the coastal border between New Hampshire and Maine, whose name derives from (branch) and (tidal river), or alternatively from (meaning "dark night") and ("place of") or from a Lenape language word meaning "great deer". Maila Elizabeth Syrjäniemi (December 11, 1922 – January 10, 2008), known professionally as Maila Nurmi, was an American actress who created the campy 1950s character Vampira. She was raised in Astoria, Oregon, where she worked in tuna and salmon canneries. She relocated to Los Angeles in 1940, with hopes of becoming an actress. After several minor film roles, she found success with her Vampira character, television's first horror host. Nurmi hosted her own series, ''The Vampira Show'', from 1954 to 1955, on KABC-TV. After the show's cancellation, she appeared in the 1959 cult film ''Plan 9 from Outer Space'', directed by Ed Wood. She is also billed as Vampira in the 1959 film ''The Beat Generation'', where she appears out of character and instead plays a beatnik poet. ''Mars Attacks!'' is a 1996 American science fiction comedy film directed by Tim Burton, who also co-produced it with Larry J. Franco. The screenplay by Jonathan Gems was based on the Topps trading card series of the same name.
